Roadster Gel Seat

Has anyone experienced Triumph's gel seat on the Roadster yet. Their web site pics looks like it might lower the rider a little. That would be a good thing for short legs like me.

I'll second that question. I parted with a Suzuki M109 for my new Roadster. One thing I rather liked about the 109 was it sat NOTICEABLY lower than the RIII.

I don't see why a Roadster would be any different than a standard R3 in the seat dept.
I've been trying to decide which of the three seats I have is the most compatible with my ars and one of them is the gell. IMO there is no difference between the height, width or even looks with the stock seat vs the gell version. Even the optional pillion is identical to stock, of course they feel completely different. It may even feel like you're sitting more "down inside the seat" with the gell.
If you are seriously interested in having the gells, I was toying with the idea of selling them. I've decided that the Corbin saddle fits me best, so I was going to keep that one and the stocker.
Personally IMO, I'd go aftermarket for a seat ... you can get something that fits you better and won't hurt yer hiney so much on long rides. I was stunned and skeptical when told that firmer is better, but I'm starting to agree after putting more and more miles on the Corbin. I have the "Young Guns" Corbin, the "NewR3.com" ad at the top of the page has one on the bike. It sits much lower than the Triumph seats, the up-turn at the back feels good on the lower back and holds me in very well.

If you were to sell the Gel seat - what price ?

I was looking for the Roadster Gel pilot/rider/driver seat - A9701142. I already have the pillion one on order. Was wondering what price you would want for it, incl. shipping to Texas ?

As far as the seat height goes, Roadster's standard factory seat feels at least 1" taller than the standard seat on the previous Rockets. When I bought mine, I talked the dealer into swapping the R3R seat for a low seat from an 08 Rocket. Seats appear to be interchangeable between the models, so I would highly recommend doing this if you are having trouble flatfooting with the stock R3R seat.

As far as gel goes, I've never owned one, but I have two thoughts on the matter. First, I've had several gel-filled items in the past (mouse pads, umbrella handles, pens, etc) which with time started leaking gel. These items were nowhere near under the stress of changing temperatures and 185lb pressure of weight as my motorcycle seat is. My philosophy is that Everything Filled with Liquid Leaks Eventually, so I personally would not trust a gel seat, given the stress it's placed under.

Second, as I've learned in three years in the world of adventure motorcycling, softer is not better when it comes to seats. I had a factory seat on my r1200gs, and it was soft and felt very comfortable around town, but would quickly become a literal PITA on trips longer than an hour. When I upgraded to a Touratech Day-Long seat, my first impression was "wow -- this thing feels hard!", but because it was made with more dense foam it actually was more supportive and better at distributing my weight and preventing pressure points. (Same with my tempurpedic mattress -- I would never call it plush, but boy does it do a good job of supporting my body weight!)

I am yet to try the factory seat on a day-long run, but I would imagine it will prove to be too soft and I will end up with an aftermarket seat in the future.

I have a Solo Touring gell seat and matching bolt-on gell pillion (passenger) seat. I will sell them both for 1/2 of new ($185) plus shipping (probably around $45 USPS ground).
They fit 2008 and newer R3 Standards for sure, and from what else I see, some '07's and the new Roadsters as well. They are for the versions that use the ignition key in the right side cover to release the cable actuated latch on the frame under the rider seat where the seat mounted pin engages. The pillion bolts under the rider seat to the fender utilizing the three bolt mounting plate.
Both seats are perfect and look new (1yr old). I also have the matching gell sissy bar back, but I'm using that. However, if someone had the regular one to trade, we could make that part of the "package" too.
If someone is serious, I can unpack the rider and pillion for photos... but you better be serious, they are well packed. LOL

dache, it's not that kind of gell. So it won't leak or get hard in the cold. They are just as durable as the stock versions, in fact they have better side panels than stockers.

I've got three complete sets of seats for the bike and obviously can't use them all at once. lol
I'm not parting with my Corbin and the stock seats aren't worth anything .... so one guess which one I decided to part with. Hehe

Anyone tried the 'low rider' seat? I would like something lower than the stock on the Roadster (someone has suggested the Roadster seat is about an 1" higher than the other RIIIs .. don't know on that one). Interestingly, the 'low rider' isn't listed as an option on Triumph's site when the Roadster is selected.
