Riding style and gearbnox problems

Mine has been fine. I started this thread (CLICK) because no one ever posts that their bike is trouble free they only post problems so we all get a false impression that there are certain inherent problems, there are some I know like early ignition switches but not everyone. If you beat the crap out of your bike and it breaks then what do you expect. I do like to twist it now and then but I've never been a fan of flogging the bike endlessly.

This is true. You only hear about the blown up bikes. There is no need to thrash these bike as they are scary enough as standard. It scares me anyway!!!!

Every make and model of bike has inherent problems. Some worse than others. The Roadster is known to have a weak transmission. I knew this prior to buying the bike. Plenty of information found throughout this site and many other motorcycle sites about the Roadster's transmission issues. The myth that the transmission goes south because you abused your bike is just that a myth. Performance upgrades granted are going to place more stress on the transmission but this issue is found on stock bikes as well. It seems to be popular enough for Robinson Industries to come out with a better forth gear and heavier clips along with working the gears. So the thought that a guy mentions that his transmission went south does not automatically lead to "Well he abused his bike" Yes kind of figured that eventually the transmission would go south just glad that there is a easy fix with solid aftermarket parts which is stronger and better made than the stock parts. Figure after the transmission is fixed up by Robinson Industries I should have the transmission issues behind me.

Fwiw....think the Roadsters were stopped being made in 2014 but Triumph continued on assembling them till all the parts were assembled...the end which was 2018...so all those models are the same. I had a 2014 then a new 2016 and they were identical. The new 2020 models have an improved gearbox with helical cut teeth probably bought about from the problems with the earlier Rocket.
So far with the GT box i have found..there is a 'clunk' when engaging first gear but then all changes are real silky smooth. I run Amsoil fully synthetic oil so i think that helps alot....just my thoughts..

OK, so I'm confused (not unusual in my case).
Why would one model of Rocket be more prone to transmission problems than another? Why would a Roadster have a different transmission than say a Touring? The only way I can think of is if Triumph had different engine assembly lines for different Rocket models and I don't think that is likely, I would assume that they had only one Rocket engine assembly line.

I do know of twenty of the Rocket X's that have suffered from transmission failure. Clips were installed incorrectly. Guessing 2015 was not a good year.
when they install those clips i have no doubt that several of those clips were spread open to far to make a good fit (snug on shaft) so just waiting and moving around
wearing so it can pop out of its grove at the most inopportune time.
i guess i should not have tried to give all the guys the big foot complex. :whitstling: :roll:

You could be correct with that theory. Over stretching the clips to fit them may be more detrimental to the fit than fitting it chamfered side out. This could be why some fail and most do not.
