I learned something about myself and my bike last weekend as i was coming home from the wet side of washington. It seems as though i get uncomfortable after about 110-130 miles and need a break. I also learned that when i made my arse slide back and my back go straight i was able to ride for longer periods of time (sitting on my tailbone naturally. sliding back has me sitting on my arse more).

I am thinking about how to make this more comfortable for me and my passenger and have come up with a couple of ideas.

1) new seat. something like a corbin or the triumph dual tour seat. something that will just bolt on and be done.

2) try and find a different foot position to make the straight back style sitting position more comfortable (was considering rearsets a while back anyways but since i occasionally have a passenger now that may not be an option as her seat needs to be modified for comfort regardless of which option.

3) take the bike to a custom upholstery shop and shell out big $$ to get a seat custom formed for my passenger and my particular body.

i was leaning towards option 3 but used seats are acceptably priced on eBay and have me thinking of the dual tour option.

how much more comfortable is the dual tour compared to the standard seat? Corbin compared to the standard seat.

I am not into the idea of putting something on top of the seat (for me anyways, riding 2 up i wouldn't be pushing it hard enough to make a difference) and sitting on that since i nearly fell off in a corner once with one of those.

also if anyone knows of another option i may look into.

thanks,
Steve

A lot depends on how big you are. If your tailbone is acheing/burning, then you may be pushing through the stock foam and sitting directly on the seat pan. The Triumph seats all have a soft foam that does a very poor job of supporting larger riders.

I had the stock Standard seat. sucked.
Then went to the Triumph Dual Tour. sucked.
Sent the Dual Tour off for a custom build by Rick Mayer. Helped a bunch was still just too soft.
Now I have the Corbin Dual Tour and have found my nirvana. It is a great seat for all day comfy. It's hard as hell at first but no more tail burn.

Like you and TD, the stock seat was killing me. I had a Rick Mayer seat on a BMW and found it to be most satisfactory. I actually stopped by Rick Mayer's place in NORCAL to talk to him about a seat for the Rocket but opted for the Corbin instead. It is a much roomier and firmer seat on which I can now ride across country in comfort. It is also leather which cuts down on the dreaded "monkey butt". The next time you are in the area Steve, please feel free to drop by and take my Rocket for a spin to see if the Corbin suits you.

I also just installed one on my VStrom, purchasing it gently used on line for $220.

It also just occurred to me that I have a custom "flame" rider/passenger seat for a Rocket standard sitting on the shelf in my shop. It appears to be much firmer than the stocker. You could also give that a try.

Steve, when/if you get a chance to swing by Mike's to try out his seats, consider getting some info from Rich's also. I've heard good things about him and he's in the area.

The Dual-Tour is MUCH better than the Solo.

The riders backrest is also a godsend.

Not withstanding it's still not perfect. I stuck a Gel Pad in mine and made dimples for the Ischia bones and it made all the difference. In my opinion it is still lacking for the passenger

If you REALLY want THE BEST BOTTY COSSETING - Russel Daylong seems to be accepted by most as THE OPTION - way ahead of Corbin.

Everyone is different, I have the Touring dual long haul, most comfortable seat I've ever sat on, done 500+ mile days with no back or arse discomfort ever.

Rivco boards for comfortable foot position ( rear sets foot when resting on back edge of board) Triumph gel seat & Utopia back rest! 'Tis like riding an armchair

My corbin has infinitely (screw) adjustable mid (driver) back rest. and rear if you need it.
Yes, money but the difference on long rides is immeasurable.

I also got the optional heater for driver and pillion.

850 miles to ride down to get one, but they are great
