Removed ram air, installed 2780s

Access to the engine is not a good reason for putting on the triple filters. Removing the plenum is a simple task. The Ramair unit is just a one-piece triple filter. You still have to remove the same stuff to install it. I don't know what the purpose of the Ramair was. Considering the problems they've had with breakage, triple filters are a better way to go. If you think the 2780's don't flow enough, you can use bigger K&N's.
 
Some people had an issue with the first version of the Ramair splitting at the flange where it tightens at the throttle bodies. The company made their second version with better rubber and from what I have read it is good. I have the first version and have no issues. The air temperature sensor has its own place in it with the extended wiring harness in the kit. All fits under the bear claw.
 
Dont waste your money on the under seat filter. Do it right or dont do it at all.

Grampi, It appears that FR56 is either wicked anal or cheap. Maybe both. Go with the K&N RU-2780 and 2 of the K&N 62-1340 breathers. $148.95 for all 5 filters at Auto Zone. This is an easy and cheap upgrade with big benefits. Power, throttle response, and fuel economy are all increased to very pleasing levels. Then when you are ready do the exhaust upgrades and you will be riding a completely different Rocket. You will need to do a tune but that is easier than you think. Don't listen to the folks that aren't willing to try it or never have done it. They are either ignorant to upgrades or just like to appear smarter than the rest.

At that price, with the extra room afforded under the tank and elsewhere, and surely colder, better breathing it appeals to my practical, penurious, and lazy DIY side.

I assume there is little market for used OEM plenums.

I tossed my old stuff in the same box with all the other parts I took off the bike. The air box is a great place for all kinds of gear now.
 

When Tom (the guy I bought it from) had the bike he installed the ram air, TORS, and a crossover pipe from Australia, and had it dyno tuned. I have the dyno run on a memory stick and it did 144 hp and 159 ft lbs rear wheel, so whoever said you'd get a 10 HP gain was a bit low. I highly doubt the 2780s flow any worse than the ram air, so I'm sure they're contributing something to the power gain. Tom already had all 5 of the filters you listed brand new and he gave them to me with the bike. They're all on the bike now...
 
Thats excellent. You should check the tune or have someone help you get it dialed in. I think you will see some gains in the HP and torque with the correct tune. I just noticed your poor running issue post, has that been corrected?
