Interesting to hear Will.Well becouse mine has always made intrusive vibes at around 3000rpm,using any kind of performance tune exept for the staintune one,Ive basicly gone back to a stock setup. So in the form of stock drilled out pipes, empty cat box,O2 sensor, secondaries working and the stock un modified 20222 tune, the bike is very much more smoother,BUT also allot softer feeling in accelleration as you would expect.
Now at 3000rpm in second which is 60kph the headers do glow orange, and this does seem to be normal from all the reading Ive done on here and the .net site.Although I wanted full performance and have tried most of the common performance mods including triple filters/tors/cat bypass/3into2 thunderbike zorst,my particular R3 just dosnt like being far away from being stock, those pesky vibes at around 3000rpm seem to get worse and it prefers to run lean, thats when it smooths out.
I even went the tuneboy/PC3 route ,but I think the tuner was useless and the results while OK on the dyno,It still wasnt smooth and it was the only R3 this guy had done and I think he didnt really know how to tune properly.
It probably needs individual cylinder tuning, for performance AND smoothness, but theres just no one in new zealand I can find with the knowledge or experience to do this that I would trust,my first dyno tuner put me off bigtime.
Iam however playing with the stock tunes and while the bike seems to run hot,and does loose some grunt its allot more smoother, but Im also changing the ignition only in the first few gears, and have found even with the stock secondary plate settings,if you put a bit of advance in the ignition tables it does wake her up a bit,so this might be the only option Ive got to squeze any zing from the bike while keeping the vibes at bay.Weird I know but Ive spent about a year trying to get the bike smooth and ridable, and tried most combos and tunes along the way!
