"Red hot" headers.....

I'd only be worried about the glow if it was red hot whilst out on the road.. sat stationary there's no air cooling.....

Agree, though I really don't think that the design/position of the headers/heat shields; with that large radiator blocking direct air flow, is going to have a noticeable cooling effect on the headers themselves.....

Interesting to hear Will.Well becouse mine has always made intrusive vibes at around 3000rpm,using any kind of performance tune exept for the staintune one,Ive basicly gone back to a stock setup. So in the form of stock drilled out pipes, empty cat box,O2 sensor, secondaries working and the stock un modified 20222 tune, the bike is very much more smoother,BUT also allot softer feeling in accelleration as you would expect.
Now at 3000rpm in second which is 60kph the headers do glow orange, and this does seem to be normal from all the reading Ive done on here and the .net site.Although I wanted full performance and have tried most of the common performance mods including triple filters/tors/cat bypass/3into2 thunderbike zorst,my particular R3 just dosnt like being far away from being stock, those pesky vibes at around 3000rpm seem to get worse and it prefers to run lean, thats when it smooths out.
I even went the tuneboy/PC3 route ,but I think the tuner was useless and the results while OK on the dyno,It still wasnt smooth and it was the only R3 this guy had done and I think he didnt really know how to tune properly.
It probably needs individual cylinder tuning, for performance AND smoothness, but theres just no one in new zealand I can find with the knowledge or experience to do this that I would trust,my first dyno tuner put me off bigtime.
Iam however playing with the stock tunes and while the bike seems to run hot,and does loose some grunt its allot more smoother, but Im also changing the ignition only in the first few gears, and have found even with the stock secondary plate settings,if you put a bit of advance in the ignition tables it does wake her up a bit,so this might be the only option Ive got to squeze any zing from the bike while keeping the vibes at bay.Weird I know but Ive spent about a year trying to get the bike smooth and ridable, and tried most combos and tunes along the way!

Having chatted with you about this problem, I still reckon there's an issue with the bike going on.drilled pipes mebbe??. the Thunderbike pipes are similar to D&D... my mate has D&D & a tuneboy dynoed 136hp tune..& I can kick his arse on his rocket when he uses his othe bike , a Gixer 1000 '09 model ( borrowed as mine(head) is at Carpenters.. Neither mine nor his, nor 2 other R3's I know particularly vibrate.

Mine vibrates a little at around 3000 rpm. Did when it was bone stock, not any worse now with tors, cat delete, triple K&N's and Blastedbones's supertune. The only difference is it goes like hell now ! Performance is absolutely smooth from idle to 7,000 rpm.

yea might be a mechanical,or it might need individual cylinder tuning I dont know.its kind of a cross between a vibe and a resonance Im feeling on the throttle grip, this is also my dodgy hand, left hand/side is fine,so perhaps my throttle hand is real sensitive. All I do know is that in close to stock form with a stock tune running leanish the bike is smoother without a doubt, and my hand dosnt go numb.I do miss the performance, but Im willing to sacrifice that for a smooth ride.BTW throttle bodies are balanced,so I dunno just what works for me.

You didn't by chance change your handlebar grips and leave off the weights did you ?
