A little confused as me reckons the bearings we need are standard sizes.
Why can we not order USA made bearings off the shelf?

I found a Japanese brand called koyo . I’ll give them a go. About double the all balls, but still less than $100 AU

This works for me IMG_0469.JPG IMG_0474.JPG We have a place in Tulsa Oklahoma that will makes a set of bearings if you bring in your old bearings or the proper dimensions of bearings required. High dollar but very good quality.

Replacing my bearings just because. I purchased from a bearing supplier nearby. Wanted only American or Japanese bearings. Got a set of American brand SKF. They are known as the best. Surprise me. 2 of them, the big one and the single row one, were made in Argentina and the double row was made in USA. Put them in the freezer overnight. Heated the bore for the big one. Put a little Honda 77 assembly paste on it and drove it home with a large socket that fit the outer race. Bingo all is good. Did the same thing with the USA double row and guess what. The bearings outer race shattered where the race and the seal meet. Not using that bearing. Took it back to the bearing supplier. They took picture and submitted for warranty. SKF said NO because I used a hammer to install it. SKF insists only pressing in a bearing is correct. REALLY ??? Had to buy another double row bearing. This time I got the Japanese brand. NSK is said to be the BEST Japanese brand. Open the box and guess what again. This bearing was made in Germany. Its in the freezer tonight. Going to install it and the Argentine SKF single row bearing tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Back when I was a youngin' and didn't know $hit from Shinola, I used to install bearings with a hammer and pound directly on the bearing races. Often with the force being transmitted through the balls . I can say, I never had one break. I think they should have warrantied the bearing.
