Motorcycle Sport Mount

Bought this to mount my radar detector. used the front bolt on the speedo/tach gage mount to mount it. sits the radar detector just above the tach & speedo. Figured I pass the info on. :D

Isn't Escort the only detector made? lol

I'm an avid believer in spending the money for the best detection technology available.

I've always used Escort detectors and currently use an 8500 X-50, and trade up every few years.
It's a good idea to replace one every two-three years not only because they become outdated technology wise, but the harsh conditions inside a car cause problems over time with the chips and circuit boards. And all it takes is one time when it fails to work and the ticket can cost you what a new unit costs. And that's not including the aggravation, increased insurance over the next 5 years, and possible damage to credit rating.

Escort recently came out with an interesting combination, Passport radar detector and GPS with False Location memory, Speed trap warning and Red Light location warning. It warns of how much you are exceeding posted speed limits and remembers where false alerts are located so that once it learns it stops going off in those places. I hear their GPS maps are really good and come with free updates.

The all-in-one units are typically hokey and eventually one part of it becomes outdated, but for a motorcycle with limited space it sounded like a good idea.

That mount looks sturdy, I'm always worried it might fall off the bike and be ruined. I'll have to look into that bracket for myself.

Just make sure that you don't have it in your possession when you cross into the the nanny state of Virginia. It is illegal to POSSESS a radar detector here. Stuffed away in your saddle bag doesn't count.

It can be confiscated and is a BIG fine. I love living here but some stuff is a real aggrevation.

bel gx65. bel is the child company of escort. it actually beat out the escort 9500ix in test. both are gps based and have update able databases (both use the same database) for red light cameras & speed cameras. plus the bel can be found for $100 less (amazon) than the escort. the guy that runs the radartest website does real world test on all the detectors & jammers. a lot of good info there if your interested.

first 3 mo of map updates are free. then it's like $30 for 3 yrs.

Ditto, I have lost a radar detector to the Virginia State Police ... and it was expensive

I've been reading on radar Roy's website for about 2 weeks now (pulled over 2 weeks ago) and am going to invest in a laser jammer and radar detector (since its illegal to jam radar)

if you've had good results with the bell...and hellfire has had good results with escort. those are the two I'm going to research a bit more then. anyone run a laser jammer?

Both are great units and the company shares all the tech between the each other. for these two units, the button location/separation just works a little better on the bike.

Blinder M27 is your best bet for the bike. Jamming most laser detectors down to point blank range. Most reviews are on the Blinder M47 but the units are the same except for the number of jammers it has. A bike doesn't really need 4 jammers. 2 should work just fine.

****, they still have that stupid law?!? I'd have thought the powers that be would have outgrown their Technophobia in the 21st century.
The new Escorts advertise that their detectors are undetectable to VA police radar detector detectors. I always wondered if they couldn't 'see' them, if they could 'detect' the new units?
The Escort GPS/radar detector combo might be perfect for hiding in plain sight.
