Quality Oil really does make a difference

I ended up looking at what oil my dealer used last year for my first service. Now I'm really upset! Lol. They used 10w40 shell drum oil at $14.99 a quart! 6 quarts used! Not even synthetic!! Wtf! Also, what chain did they adjust??? Lol. Pics below.

Cheap oil at the beginning of an engines life
Won't bode well in the long run , I would insist on the Triumphs recommended lifeblood !

That's all I use these days - pushy recommended but change every 5,000 klms as it is a race oil

why does it being a race oil make differece as to howlong it's used?

I agree! Maybe that's why I felt such a massive difference with the Motul! What upsets me is they are charging 14.99 a quart for cheap ass non synthetic drum oil! It's probably less than a dollar a quart for them to buy it that way! grrrrr....My oil only had 1500 miles on it when I changed it yesterday and it looked bad already. Criminal if you ask me. Glad I got it sorted now though.

OK don't take this wrong but I would only use shell oil to start a burn pile and dump in a bucket of rusty bolts Just my opinion though I see they charged you more for the shell then the Motul 300V 15w50 oil I just bought. and its the same price as the Red Line 20W50 which I used. I would change it myself and call them and ask why they are not putting recommend oil in and I would be curious if the oil they put in had the wet clutch additive these motorcycle's take?

I would also dump the oil and not believe anything they say about the oil without showing you this drum.

Oh and which dealership did this, and check the log book to see if they signed off on the 500 mile check its in that little operators manual. Keep this receipt for warranty purposes.

Yes definitely ! It staggers me tho that they would use anything other than the manufacturers recommended oil in the first place on a 500 mile service !

This happened last year when I first bought the bike new. The dealer was MCC in villa park Illinois. They are a very reputable dealer and I've bought many bikes from them over the years.

This is why it shocked me.

I did do the change myself yesterday. The difference this Motul made on my transmission alone is incredible.

Great to hear about the Motul. I was trying to buy the synthetic media filter (purolator) yesterday only to find out it is no longer made So I picked what I think was the replacement to try. Call the engineers at Purolator and they could not tell me anything as they did not have to dimensions on the filter that was no longer manufactured. Fricken idiots Anyway when I drop mine we will see.

Apparantly this oil is only recommended to be used for 80 hours in race conditions - other than that I don't know I just change as recommended by Lushy not pushy
