Quality Oil really does make a difference

After doing a small amount of Web research, it appears a few factory race teams use this stuff. I had 10w/40 Amsoil before but after riding the girl around all day yesterday and just noticing a huge difference, I am staying with it. In the end, no matter what you use, you're the one that needs to be happy with what you are using. Me and my gearbox are happy with Motul 300v 15w/50

What does it cost you, Mick?

Over here it can be had for about $14 US/quart.

I haven't seen a good oil thread in awhile..Motul is a great oil i used it in my Suzuki. I think they were in bed with Honda and Suzuki. I've used Mobil 1 in the Rocket from the day one. I change my oil every 3000 miles so using Motul for me would be even more of a waste of money ..;)

I have changed my own oil for most of the time I have owned my Rocket.....2005 bought new

I needed to change my oil about 8 yrs ago....and I waited until the last moment...could not fine one oz. of 15w 50w no where..so I had to go with 10w 40w T4...this was in early spring here...Temps were cool...

As the temp went up into the summer...the 10w 40w was too thin...gear box went harsh and noise coming out of it...So if it gets hot where you live I would say any good 15w 50w T4 oil would be good..........

Temps in the summer gets into the upper 90's* F and as high as 105* Max...........what sucks about where I live....is the humidity always high here in NC. USA...very seldom does the humidity get below 65% in the summer

Bought the rocket and gearbox felt a little agricultural. First service and I thought that may make a difference as I heard they used a thinner oil initially. Picked up the rocket after the service and the shop said that they used Yamalube as it is a better oil than Castrol, gearbox still felt agricultural. Did another 2000 km and decided I would use Amsoil 10w/40 full synthetic and still no difference in the gearbox. Whilst I was at Lushy's getting the rocket dyno'd he mentioned that the best oil he knows and recommends is Motul v300 full synthetic factory racing oil. So went into town and forked out more cash and my god, what a difference this oil made. Smoother shifting immediately. So very noticeable. This is definitely the oil for my rocket from here on in. This is the way the rocket was meant to shift.
That's all I use these days - pushy recommended but change every 5,000 klms as it is a race oil

So did you change the oil on the bike or did you only change the shaft drive oil in the rear of the bike? Isn't the smoother shifting associated with changing the oil in the rear gear? Also, how much oil does it take back there?

You are correct.....the trans. is included in the engine oil change...it is all one

The rear end has very little heavy gear oil....can't remember just how much it takes??
