changing color of chrome

Not sure if it will look good or not but i was thinking about powder coating my bearclaw, radiator end grill cover things, and the header covers, possibly the pipes too. my neighbor has a powder coating booth so that wont be an issue.

my question is this. if the metal is soo thin on the claw will it handle the heat during the powder coating process, my gut says yes but i want to be sure. i was thinking black chrome for these pieces.

next question: how does one prep chrome for powdercoating?

thanks,
Steve

(EDIT: changed title name because i found some new products

Powdercoating claw

You have to clean with an acetone or you can have the claw bead blasted than cleaned, make sure that you do not get any fingerprints on the claw or anything before you do any powdercoating you friend should know this

The heat or baking should not bother it as long the temp is limited as per the powder used

Bearclaw can be powdercoated no problem. Radiator shrouds/end covers are plastic and will need to be painted. All i did to prep the chrome parts prior to powdercoating was a good scuffing with a scotchpad. Has stayed on fine for 2 years. Not sure about manifold covers. I have seen them done black but could be black chrome ,that would cope better than p/coat with the heat ... i'd reckon. Have a look in my photo album if you want to see how a black bearclaw looks.

I had basically all the chrome I could get off the bike powdercoated a couple years ago and am very happy with the results. The only problem area was on the tors at the base of the silencer where it necks down it gets very hot and it bakes the powdercoat right off. It's not noticable with the covers in place and I painted them with stove paint in that one area and had no issues. Powdercoat can also be buffed and polished like paint and looks amazing with some work. Here are some pics of my bike right after I got everything back from powdercoat...

Nice looking bike mate , the black exhaust looks good with the silver motor. I've got a spare set of exhaust covers that i've been thinking about powdercoating black. Just not sure with the black motor. Getting my wheels done black while my bikes off the road.
