Persistent and terribly disturbing rattling coming from the engine upper l/h side. Increasing and decreasing alongside with rpm's. But definitely increasing with engine temp. The 2007 bike has over 30'000 miles on it... and a new distribution chain/tension pad dealer-fitted a couple of weeks/300 miles ago, together with a couple of new exhaust valves. The owner (a good wrench) can't figure out why, after having checked out all the possible, external causes. Nor can I, in spite of my glorious ;) Rocket III background.

Neither can the servicing dealer, and that's the problem. Any advice from hi-mileage owners thus much appreciated. Heaps of thanks.

My 05 had the "tin can with rocks" rattle at 6000 miles, ended up jumping teeth on the timing gears and bending valves against pistons. New head w/valves, pistons, and upgrade kit. Did they replace the cam chain tensioner when they did the other work? It is a known trouble spot.

Output shaft bearing? Sounds like a blender running.

Also may check the crank sprocket could be loose. If I remember some had the keyway in the sproket wolller out and work loose.
