**** oil leak...

Had to run the bike down to Dover late this afternoon to leave at the dealer. I had noticed the edge of the valve cover gasket looked a little odd the other day but forgot about it. Today when I pulled up to the house I noticed a little shinny spot down the side of the block on the right side. IT WAS OIL!!! ... and alot of it. It appears that the valve cover gasket split for some reason and was now gushing oil. (I think the tech over torqued the cover when they adjusted the valves 6,000 miles ago) It's just out of warranty as of August and the gasket was replaced with the service 10 months ago ... I told them to go ahead and do an oil service since they had it there, but Triumph needs to cover the oil leak. It's a new kid doing the write up, so he said he'll check with Triumph and call me Friday.
A 10 month old rubber gasket shouldn't be all cracked and falling apart already ****it. Hell, a 26 month old gasket shouldn't be falling apart if they reused the old one and charged me for new. Either way it's not gonna be my dime for that one. I'm paying extra to have them do the oil service rather than do it myself for less, but it's already there and what's a few extra bucks for the convenience?

But this oil mess has me pissed off .... the gasket looks 30 yrs old! Grrrrrrrrrr


I feel like I'm forgetting something I should be having them look at while it's there ..... I hate that.
What am I forgetting?

I'm sure it will get taken care of with no problems. I'm just puzzled because it happened right out of the blue. I'm all over it all the time washing and tinkering with it, I never saw anything wrong with the gasket. All of a sudden today, it's split and literally hanging out from the head. It's even broken and coming apart in more than one place, like it was over compressed and picked today to blow. Very weird.

Just wondering if you used some sort of cleaner on the motor that may have reacted with the rubber?

..ask 'em about possible recalls and service bulletins...and if you're feeling froggy, ask 'em about possibly replacing the cam chain tensioner with the newer 'improved' version..ask 'em why these factory stock rockets won't start in cold weather..(they were probably designed for use in Mexico)..ask 'em how many upgrade kits they have done (you'll probably get a blank stare on that one)..ask 'em if they've ever heard of the output shaft bearing being installed backwards, resulting in catastrophic engine failure, ask 'em about the nut coming off the gear selector lever inside the trans..that ought ta keep 'em on their toes..or piss 'em off enough to ask ya not to come back....

Also ask them how many Rockets have never had any problems a lot more than ones that have.

..oh yeah, and don't forget all those with bad TPS problems..

you know its funny cause my gps (gear position sensor recall for the R3T) reacts the same as it did before the new one was installed. Hmmmm? wonder if I got the new one? Maybe thats why Triumph pulled their dealership? Maybe something fishy was going on? Sh*t now Im all stressed out :kk:!!!!! Gotta stop reading so many posts! naaahhhhhh

Naw, I'm not one for oil additives. I love Mobil 1 and synthetic oils so I just let it do it's job and change it out at 10,000 miles (15K for the MINI), never been let down yet (knock on wood).
