**** oil leak...

Guys, does anyone have the Triumph rep's name and phone number?
I'm gonna have to call and raise a little hell with them (nicely) over this valve cover gasket.
L&D in Dover is telling me that I'm too far out of warranty (three months) to get it covered.
The real pisser, is that I had the 10k service done there last fall with the valve adjustment just 7,000 miles ago.
John (service adviser) gave me the line "valve cover gaskets do go bad". I told him that if they just "go bad" every year or 7,000 miles, then I'm a monkeys uncle. Who's he bull-****in'?

Never mind, I talked to Peter at Triumph. They are supposed to call me back later today.
I just looked at my invoice for the 10k service .... they re-used the valve cover gasket!?!
****, no wonder it failed and split apart! $613.00 for an oil change and valve adjust just so they could re-use a rubber gasket on the valve cover.

I need a new mechanic. Oh, that's right ..... I'M THE BEST ONE I KNOW.
I've tapered off doing my own work as I got older for convenience. But every time I let someone else touch my machines they screw up and I have to fix it anyway. Another lesson learned .

..I never got a warm and fuzzy feeling when I visited L&D..got to Manayunk Triumph in Phila..at least they are Triumph only dealer..they did my 10,000 mile service..

I was led to believe that L&D was a Triumph enthusiast dealer ..... WRONG!!
Just got off the phone with "JOHN", the kid that runs the service dept now. .....
OMG  F-in shoot me now!
Am I that old? This kid is trying to tell me that his "Magic-Man" guru technician doesn't make mistakes and what he says goes. You cannot run a shop when the mechanics are in charge of the place. NO WAY!
I asked WHY, Why was a new valve cover gasket not installed when the cover was removed for the adjustment? "The tech says it's not necessary" was his answer. NO **** A-HOLE! ... What do you expect a tech to say when you don't have one in stock? idiot.
I suggested, as a matter of courtesy that next time ... next customer who has the service done ... be asked if he would like to spend another $25 on top of the $600+ to have a fresh, new valve cover gasket. .... Blew me off like I was talking another language. WTF
Common sense would dictate a new gasket after spending a small fortune for an oil change and peek under the cover. At least in my book, a high end tech myself ... would never cut corners like that. OKAY >>> done complaining about that.

Triumph is going to "good will" the repair. How nice of them, when will it be ready to pick up? OH >>>>> A WEEK !!!!
WHAT?, WHY? .... "Truimph has to send us the part" ............WTF? You don't have a valve cover gasket in stock? "NO" ..... Ok, did you order the part when I dropped it off and told you to replace it? "NO" .........again WTF?

I've had it, L&D is not a Triumph Dealer ............ STAY AWAY!
Half-ass repairs based on lack of parts and the common sense to order what the customer asked for.
I hope that 2009 R3 in their showroom rusts to the tiles .... don't buy one there.

It's enough news for me to hear about your troubles with L&D Hellfire. A friend and myself took a ride down to Dover just to see what those guys were like. We both ride Rockets and were thinking about letting them do some dyno runs when we buy our pc3's for our bikes. I figured since they were a Triumph dealer and have a dyno machine, it would be the best of both worlds. :D I think I will be going to Fast by Ferrachi to do my pc3 tuning, they actually do custom tuning for Ducati race bikes. The head tuning guy seemed excited to work on my bike as soon as he saw the size of the R3 motor:eek:

You can tell them it's because of the goofy **** they pulled with previous new Triumph buyers by their service dept, that you decided to take business elsewhere. If I'd only known, well .... you know where I'm going with that one.
The owner shook my hand after writing the check and said "Thank you for the business, you've bought our flagship bike and can expect flagship service". yea, right. I think I'll make it a point to ask him why they don't stock service parts like gaskets when I pick it up.
I can't complain about the dyno work they did, but that does not a service dept make. ;)

And Delaware appears to have elected Coons....good luck, NY and Mass still making the same mistakes as well and can't figure out why their states are so screwed up...sorry...I didn't mean to make this politcal.

I visited Manayunk back in 2007 at their old place by the river (even got the t-shirt...I wear it over here on occasion) and they seemed like a pretty decent dealer.

Hopefully you'll get a "good" replacement on that gasket and live happily ever after, sorry to hear about the shoddy service. The gasket should definitely have been replaced...isn't that like an unwritten law..."don't reuse old gaskets" at least it was when I was in the Navy as a Machinist Mate when I worked in the enginerooms.

Good luck...and I hope you get a few more weeks of riding in before any snow comes.

I'd rather have him than the wicken that thinks evolution is a myth and believes scientists are growing human brains in mice.!
O'Donnell is bat-****-crazy!

That's my biggest gripe on the oil leak issue .... you go through all that labor, time and cost to the customer just to put a used, damaged gasket back at the base of all the time and labor charges .... knowing **** well it's never gonna last. You know, I know and they know they f-d up ... don't compound the problem by trying to bull-**** me.

Typical! Nobody wants to own up to their responsibilities or F'ups anymore.
Its easier to pretend your stupid or......"Uhhhhh I dont know".......talk like it.
Sort of like pretending it doesnt exist because the path of least resistance is how the upcoming generations avoid being responsible. Electricty is that way too, only you get bitten when that happens

mutt

Isn't it the craziest thing? .... but it's so, so common these days. You do a job, you think you do it well ... so well that you get arrogant. Then comes the part where you make a living at it, others pay you for your expertise and depend on you to do a good job but doing a good job just costs you time and lost income. Then at some point, you begin to cut corners in order to give yourself that raise that the people you work for wont give you. The owners of the business stop giving you all the tools necessary to do your job, (in this case not stocking parts for what you sell). So you do without. It works most of the time, but once in a while ... someone calls your bluff when work you did while cutting those corners comes back to bite you in the ass. You get defensive and blame someone or something else ... if that fails ... it's an act of God. **** just happens.
These people get so desperate that the error will cost them something, they refuse to own up to it. Where have the days of pride in ones work go? .... I think it's got alot to do with how people are treated as employees by companies and corporations. It's trickled down to every level, they see them take advantage of people with no responsibility or remorse, so why not ME?
It's just sickening to think how much worse things can get..... is there a breaking point somewhere? Will it get better, or worse? I look to children for the answer, and I'm not hopeful.
Very, very sad. :(
