You are not wrong brother. If the bike is level and you've just shut the engine off, the oil level should be between the lines. If not, it needs more oil.

@1K9 I would think not to your question about the clear oil being bad after just 5K miles. I take it your are using the correct synthetic oil, if so, then 10K miles is the right change interval. One can always change sooner for sure...

Maybe they installed the wrong dipstick at the factory and you've been filling up to the Thunderbird level. I would go back and ask the for a longer dipstick.

Thanks Boog when a dealer says they put the right amount in, You start to question your self.
3Katz I bought this digital dip stick off Triumph when I lived in Seattle and the box said Triumph Rocket.
But I’m going to take it in on Friday and if they say it’s good I’m just going to tell them to add more.
Who has a picture of a original dip stick? Is it a lot longer then the digital one I posted?

Digital dipstick? Geez I didn't realise there was any such animal available, jokes on me. Well taking that into consideration I would definitely be checking the length from where it seats on the tank inlet to the high/low marks and making sure it's the same as a standard one. The thing is it's a dry sump, as long as it's on the dipstick I don't worry. I generally overfill it cause I'm impatient and pour too quick. It doesn't matter.

While the level might be perfectly adequate to allow a consistent oil pressure even if it's not showing on the dipstick, the less oil you run, the hotter your oil gets because it circulates more frequently through the engine and therefore has less time to cool. So you'll be working your oil a lot harder than if you run it with more oil in it.

Yes and no. A little too much is fine but when you get way too much in it can cause some nasty problems

That make sense the less oil the more hotter it will get.
I think they just forgot to put that extra Quart of oil.

Ok so if you guys open what ever dip stick you guys have and stick your finger in will your finger get oil on it? Because even if I start it let it run for a bit there’s no oil on my dip stick.
And all these years I’ve been filling it up until it’s in the middle of the two lines. About 5/12 Canadian liters.
And now Triumph puts oil in and it doesn’t register on my dip stick, they say they put the right amount in.

That is pretty much what the Triumph tech told me when I bought the bike -
but he definitely mentioned 4 l or so.
Both the manual and the folk on here say
5+litres ,( depends if filter is changed)
Sure I put the right amount in, but I’d till like to ACTUALLY see it on the stick

statement no 1 Digital dipstick is great if someone dont steal it
2 Digital dipstick has to be in the oil to work accurate
3 engine oil should be at the upper level
4 i have checked mine running,off and leaning on the stand and it doesn't make much difference.
i am like one of the guys that i usually have it a little over the top mark.
5 i would tell that dealer to get his a$$ in gear and bring me enough oil to fill the bike with the proper amount.
no 6 i forgot what no 6 was
