God I only put on 1,000 to 3,000 at most and I do my oil every year
Maybe that’s over kill, but every year when I ride I like it nice and clean so my nice new clutch last nice and long

Kind of my point , I know there are 5 plus litres in the engine, I put them there but I still can’t see the stuff on the level indicator .
My qtn was:- what’s the correct method / timing to check oil level. Hot engine stood upright. But when to check ??
Immediately after stopping
1 min after stopping, 2 mins etc etc.

As this is a clean family site I will leave this one alone.

The oil is all in Texas, but the dipsticks are in DC.

I have checked mine running / on the stand / standing up straight and it doesn't seem to make a big difference,
personally i run mine for a couple of minutes check for leaks then turn it off and immediately check the level on the stand (yes i know what the book says) add as necessary then take it around the block turn it off check level and look for leaks.
now i have never had to add oil after the road check but it is always some thing i like to do because my a$$ depends on the bike.
it has been said a lot but again there r certain filters that will tighten up but leak.
the deal about turning it off and checking is that a drain back problem might cause a problem. for example if u turned off the motor took a cig break two quarts might have drained into the engine so u decide to add two quarts to bring it up to level so now it is at the full mark. when u start it the oil pumps will return the oil to the tank and u will now have two quarts to much which will run out of the overflow and fill hole.

i have no idea what means to other people comedians use it as jokes but i think that the word redneck comes from the fact when the West Virginia coal miners fought with the owners of the mines they all wore red bandannas around there necks so there buddies would not shoot there a$$ off.

If your not sure if the dipstick is the correct length, bring it over to the house and you can compare with mine, it is still the original. and no I didn't forget about you over summer, when I was "supposed" to be on vacation things got totally screwed up, and I didn't get a chance to go riding anywhere. then we had a crazy rush of students for the M1 course, essentially this summer ended up being way busier then expected
