Oil change - that old chestnut again

The Mobile oil you used appears to meet the API SH or better rating for oil quality set by Triumph, it does not have the JASO MA rating stating that it is wet clutch friendly.

If your clutch starts to slip, change the oil to one that meets the Triumph spec posted by Bob R above.

I use the Mobil 1 Racing 4T Motorcycle oil. It meets or exceeds any recommendations by the manufacturer. It is spendy but then again so is an engine or transmission. ;)

Well I think that is a lesson learnt, I did not know that but think before I run it, I will drop the 5 litres out, hadn't bought the extra litre yet so apart from a 30 second run I haven't done anything with it. I can afford to buy some more oil, I cant really afford to buy a new gearbox so think I will play safe and not test it, just in case!

Lesson learnt is dont listen to the idiot in Halfrauds who told me it was for bikes and cars :whitstling:

See? This is why I asked, but was too late, thanks all.

Have had a read on the JASO and API standards and happy the Motul I have just ordered is the right stuff, thanks, it is MA2

why not use car oils? I've been using the original MB with a tolerance of 229.5 in both car and motorcycle for a very long time. I'm fine!

The biggest issue is the friction modifiers that are put in automobile oils. In a car the engine oil lubricates only the engine. In a motorcycle the oil is shared by the engine and transmission, including the clutch. The friction modifiers in auto oil can actually clog the fibers of your clutch friction plates and cause slipping. Because the friction modifiers have been decreased or eliminated from motorcycle oils and replaced with phosphorus as an anti-wear additive it also costs more. YMMV

Hello dears! Yes, of course I agree that it may slip the clutch, but the practice of using since 2007. on all motorcycles and sports and on the road, this effect is not observed! that's the other guys who dabbled additive oil friction modifiers, conditioners, and other drugs at the initial stage had a similar effect, but then passed. I do not encourage the use of car oils, I say that it is possible and does not lead to negative consequences from my personal experience. Thanks
