No start issue, is it battery.

I think the Deka batteries are just fine. I had one in my Harley. My problem with batteries is...1st...I want an AGM and 2nd...I want to be able to take it from a shipped dry state to wet by adding the acid pack myself. I never want a battery shipped wet and ready to install as you never know how long it has been sitting around on someone's shelf. Last battery for the Rocket was a Yausa shipped dry that I added the acid pack to. Just my personal preference.

B....I hear ya man....As a chemical engineer I am OCD about that....East Penn puts MFG dates on them and mine was 2 weeks old and the place I order mine from sell so many of them they get new shipments in weekly as all they sell are batts....Oh...I see you are from Coldwater....We may be riding together soon as I am moving back to the Wolverine State and looked at a home in Adrian(I grew up in Ann Arbor)....Hope to see you soon..

THE CONFEDERACY is no place to live!

Cheers....Greg

PS..You know the Motocross AGM is made by YUASA?....Same batt....just less expensive

I think its better to buy a battery from a local store that you can return if you need to and get a mantainence free sealed battery dont buy a battery online to save a few dollars you want to be able to return it if you have a problem

I bought my Rocket in 2013 and it had an acid battery that finished the year. I bought a gel battery because a friend recommended it. This will be year three and it tests 12.8. Without the tender. With it on the tender, 13 volts. Have other Rocket owners experience with gel batteries?

I agree...You can buy the East Penn as a "Duralast Gold" at 5200 Autozone stores in the USA for 80 dollars after their 20 percent off coupon code.

You can even check the mfg date on it when you pick it up.....

Win Win!

I replaced my battery in the R3T after 4 years just for piece of mind the original was a Yuasa YTX20L-BS 18ah ,so I installed the same Yuasa part no , I gave the original battery to my son in law to use as a power pack on his camping trailer to power a few Flouro lights ect it is still doing the job charging up phones DVD player ect lots of life in it so far

There's nothing wrong with the OEM Yuasa batteries if you ride your bike frequently, ie 3-4 times a week and not just short trips to the shops, or keep it on a tender. Do that and they're good for 5 or more trouble free years.

Nothing wrecks a lead acid battery quicker than sitting around for long periods partially discharged, this causes sulfation of the lead plates where a crystalline forms on the plates reducing the area for the sulphuric acid to work on the plates effectively , for infrequently used vehicles a battery minder is a must for extending the life of the battery ,all my vehicles are hard wired with quick couplings to attach a battery minder with capacity to suit the vehicle 350ma,1600ma and 5400ma units all with automatic cut offs and suitable voltage ranges,

Mine has about had it, went and started the bike to run it warm yesterday (like to keep reminding the moving bits what they are supposed to do during winter) and despite being on a tender it wasn't overly enthusiastic. Just in case I was risking having one vehicle that didn't need a new battery this year!

2 tractors, a 24V Land rover (so 2 batteries there as well) and the Rocket as well! Just as well I have plenty of spare cash with all the new mortgage payments and referb. costs (wait...)
