Newbie here.. What is it?

Yup...it's a BMW or European Din style power plug. I added one on my touring first thing. I plug my battery charger and/or heated vest into it. I would have preferred the more common US cigarette style plug, but that's what Triumph sells for the mounting spot. You can also get a cool USB adapter plug that you can plug your USB cell phone charger cord into. Search them out on Amazon. I like the Tecmate products...well made...a good selection of adapters.

Yea, I plug my Gerbing jacket into the one I installed on my Touring.

In Australia they are called merin fittings, Jaycar Electrical stores sell the plugs and a convertor to allow use of either style plug/socket
