I ride solo most of the time so I dont want the pillion seat fitted, taking the stock backrest off and refitting was too much trouble so I have integrated the back pad into the seat so it stays with the seat when removed, all I needed was a length of flat steel 60cms long, £3 from the local blacksmith and 3 nuts and bolts, to bend the steel its best to heat it and you need a vice.
 
Great idea! I was just pricing the sissy bar setup at the triumph dealer....i like what you did as I am looking for quick setup and take down for the occasional rider or tail pack.
