My attempt at cutting on the claw

I haven't taken any IAT readings yet, but I can tell there is a blast of cool air that comes off of the Fleetliner fairing that hits the opening.

Pigr, what did you cut the claw with? I'm getting a spare one and want to cut it up for the triple filters. I want to know how you chopped it up without doing too much damage to the chrome and getting such precise lines. I want to cut mine in curves to eliminate the "bears claws".

I used a Dremel with a reenforced cut-off wheel. I went through about 3 of them. If possible cut from the back side just in case it gets away from you.

Hellfire,
I used a dremil too but I cut from the front where brian cut from the back.
I also followed the line but left about 1/4" below where my final cut would be,
to get a "feel" for the metal and the way it cut with the dremil.
Thats my only suggestion, leave yourself a little room to "fine tune it".
Also be aware that IF you follow the line all the way down like I did,
you'll have to fab yourself up a rear bracket,
which either means welding it on (ruining the chrome finish), or JB welding it.
Now IF you're gonna paint it, like I was and did, then messing up the chrome is no big deal..
Just go for it..
good luck.

claw looks great! wondering what the part # is for the uni filters? and cheapest place to buy! thinking about switching from the K&Ns

Any of the 2 1/4 ID will work. I used the ones with rubber flanges. These are cheaper than the Uni's sold by Tuneboy in OZ, but they do not come pre-oiled. And make sure to use foam filter oil, it is tacky.

thanks! I am confused if its better to go with them or not! I posted 2 pics of my bike in the album! at this past weekends thunder in the valley motorcycle rally, I wanted to have my bike run on the dyno, to see where I was at, then pull off the filters and run it again! to compare the results! there was a huge tractor trailer there with dynojet dyno, but the operator after shutting down the bike he was testing, looked at me (I had on my Rocket 3 shirt) and said you have a rocket 3? I replied yes, he responded that he was not interested in dynoing my bike! to keep my money! several people standing around all looked puzzled! he went on to say he only ever did one rocket and he was not going to abuse his equipment and he said the heat was terrible! I just smiled and walked away! my girlfriend looked at me and said did you know that guy? nope never seen him before! boy he was rude!

HAAA! I had nearly the same experience. Was at a little bike show and they had one of those portable trailer dyno's doing harley's and big sport bikes in the parking lot, one after the other. I got in line to set an appointment and they told me "NO, sorry we don't do rockets ... they tear up the machine". I walked away grinning ear to ear all puffed up with the wife telling me not to get a big head. I just wish they had said it LOUDER! :D:cool:
