Lower Timing Chain Blew-up!!!!!!!

Is that "desert' or dessert"-Tony? Sandy or Sundae? LOL :p
Heavier bar ends and Kuryakin billet aluminum mirrors took care of what little vibration mine had. Do you still have those stock Mickey Mouse Ear mirrors? Those things suck over 3000 rpm.

Upgrade kit

Ah, On the House parts!

Let's see, just spent $202.00 for the upgrade kit. Tender heart Triumph has for us folks left with dealers that can't seem to diagnose the problem and get help.

If I can't tear it down and put it back together, then that's $1600 in labor I can put down on something else :) and make a charitable donation for scrap metal.

Just tired of fighting the transmission, had to rant. Sorry:(

shaft bearing

My 2005 Rocket just stranded me in the middle of nowhere (La Junta, CO).
Dealer says shaft bearing (one side sealed the other open for lube) was installed backwards at the factory.
@10,000 miles later it dried out and exploded.
almost 2 grand in the hole with the rescue and airfare home.
Then I will have to fly back to Dallas and retrieve it next spring.
more $$ / more $$
And, no word yet on what may or may not be covered by factory warranty.
Waiting to hear.
The mechanic says the good news is that the rebuild kit is covered by just one part number.
Wonder if there will be any good news for me?

Sorry to hear of your ride, stranded is never good...been there done that, not as bad though.

I have 22K on my RIII and it is running great. Just need to get it into the dealer for the 12K checkup, oil change, etc...

Rode the Dragon two days after it opened, in July, and no patrol, but sure was having fun scraping the pegs on the curves. I would absolutely do it again..

Hopefully, Triumph will make it right somehow.

Just one part number

Holy Crap:eek:

Just got my box of "just one part number"

An instruction manual ( pages are 5" x 8")

Some 40 plus parts- avg $5 each.

Will have to order the clutch release parts though:eek:

This is going to be fun.

05 Rocket rebuild

My 05 Rocket barfed in the middle (well it became the end!) of a long road trip. All speculation aside - after the local shop tear down the word was: the wood-ruff key on the crank sheared allowing the crank and cams to spin out of sync. That bent all 12 valves @ $100.00 each that was just the beginning. Although a newer stronger key was part of the paint rattle can noise "one part number warranty kit" the repair labor was not covered (not sure about the kit itself as I have not seen an itemized bill yet - suffice it to say I could have left the Rocket in the ditch and purchased a new but much smaller M/C - but then I would not have a Rocket with a newly rebuilt engine). I plan to to retrieve it in April - will post another update after that...

Sheared Woodruff key, WOW:eek:, I've been working with pulleys, gears, and motors a long time and have never seen a key break. That takes a helluva lot of torque. Makes me wonder if something on the cam side locked up.
Good luck with the rebuild.

05 rocket rebuild

That Rocket had @12,000 miles is all.
I will say that driving 50/550 from Grand Jct, Colorado headed South (where they do not believe in guard rails) and then 64 East to Taos and Raton, NM really put the strain on it - 2 days with a lot of low speed hairpins (it was October - and the road surface was often iffy) - the first 2 or 5 were fun but the last 100 really tested it - and it failed....
