So I was just cruising around the Maryland countryside yesterday evening when my tranny literally exploded. I casually shifted from 2nd to 3rd and it revved like it was in neutral. I only felt very minor vibrations and nothing alarming, no wheel lockup, but I had lost 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Engine ran fine and I thought I might limp home in 2nd but I noticed an oil trail after a couple miles. Upon closer examination, I discovered the literal hole in my transmission case. At least a kindred spirit brought me a couple cold PBRs during my 2-hour wait for the tow truck. I had it towed to a local reputable shop last night, but I'm looking for advice on where to go from here.
  • Is it worth it to have the shop start digging into this, splitting the engine, finding all the damage, attempting to repair?
  • File an insurance claim?
  • Buy an engine off eBay and do a swap?
  • Tow it to a Triumph dealer and ask them and/or Triumph corporate to look into it?
Any and all advice is welcome at this point.

New internal parts, cases and labor would be more than the bike is worth. Possible more than it cost new. A complete used engine is the way to go.
Yeah, you might be right there. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and ask them if Triumph North America is willing to look into this, and go from there based on their response.
