Lower Timing Chain Blew-up!!!!!!!

The BIKE is DONE & Ready for Pickup!!!!!!!!

Got the phone call yesterday afternoon. The bike is done and ready for pickup.

They have put 30+ miles on and it is running great, so I am told. I will probably go over and pick it up this weekend. Whether I trailer the bike or ride it is yet to be seen, weather permitting. It is supposed to be in the 50's this weekend.

Anybody selling training wheels, I think I forgot how to ride. (It has been 6 weeks.)

I will give a final review when completed with the complete parts list and total cost (if available, it was warranty work) with other information when I get all of that together.

Well good, hopefully it is sorted for good.

Only six weeks downtime for blowing a timing chain?? Now I'm really feeling Screwed by Triumph/the dealer--my Rocket has been down since the middle of August since it won't run properly at steady throttle. Now it runs at steady throttle but idles at 3,000 rpm.....

One other item--I spoke with the folks in Georgia 10 days ago. They said it sounded like my throttle bodies were shot (21,000 miles on the Rocket and 1 year off warranty) Said they would send new throttle bodies after dealer sent engine management report or some such thing. Report was sent--haven't seen anything in the way of parts though......

How were the folks at the US distributer to deal with?

The folks in Georgia sounded concerned that my bike has been down so long, and sounded like they wanted to help, but I'm still waiting for the throttle bodies......

Got It HOME............YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, got it home Saturday night. Rode over on a Goldwing, that is a story in itself.....Several truckers were doing a double take. I guess I would have as well, oh well, when you want to ride and not trailer the bike that was the only choice available.

Bike is running great!!!!!!!! A screamin' R3. Only thing was my gas mileage dropped to 27 mpg. I was doing 90 all the way back on the interstate (210 miles), but I never got that bad of mileage (worst was 34 mpg-b4 overhaul). Do you guys think it is due to the engine being tight??? I hope it goes up. The fuel light went on at exactly 3.5 gallons of gas used in the tank. I will try to attach the warranty invoice here. If I have problems I will email the moderator and try to get it on then. Total cost was $4,648.21. (21.15 hours of labor @ $1,586.25, difference was parts cost). It was less than I thought it would be, I was guessing over $7k, I was way off on that one....

Well, you were only a hundred bucks more than my engine detonation scenario with my sled and that was 5 years ago. I did get a complete engine because when I got through or should I say when the engine got through, there was a hole in the bottom of the crankcase you could drop an apple through......

All that over a friggin sprocket and of course the collateral damage of all the debris circulating around in there.

My question is simply what Triumph is doing as far as a warranty for the labor and parts? Are they allowing an extended warranty on the engine to cover workmanship or is it an 'out the door and forgetaboutit deal?

From what I can ascertain, my bike and Bart's bike were both built after the sprocket change, taking into account the last 10 digits of the serial number. Barring a basackward installed bearing on the Torsional Vibration Dampner we should be good to go.

Finally, maybe your loss in mileage could be attributed to, in part, a tight engine or maybe the new tune which I'm sure was loaded in your ECM.
