Louder Pipes is it possible

Dudes, Dyno numbers are really equivalent to Penis size.
Now I don't want to say my pee pee is bigger than yours, but I would like to say, anyone doing the chest beating claiming 147hp on a touring, really ought to not enter into a competition. We all have fast bikes, most of us ride them slow, others easy and some like flipping mad men on a suicide mission.

Simple truth is, Roadsters are faster than tourings and if any Roadster rider wants to stoke your fire let them, don't go wee wee comparing, chances are very high that you will lose!!!!!!!!!!

First off, Dude, I have no need nor desire to do any 'chest beating'. I was simply responding in kind to a friendly, needling post from another member. And I assume by your 'claiming 147 HP' that you are implying that I was lying. I don't appreciate that, and, if you really care I can post the dyno sheet.

As to any bike being faster than another, its no more relevant than comparing dyno sheets from different dynos, as you pointed out. I've had bikes that, on a twisty road would run away and hide from my R3T. And on one of those same bikes, I struggled mightily to keep up with a gray haired guy on an old Harley. On a BMW GS I've run away from kids on high powered sport bikes. Unless you're talking about the same rider, under identical conditions, the bike is only one factor in the results. As I said in another post, its not the arrow, its the Indian.

Forget the penis size - er um I mean dyno - contest. I'm going to get a 183 cubic inches embellisher for my oil tank. Thats 2999cc. Then we'll see who looks the biggest dick! :D Not sure that came out right.

Hey GPmaz I appolagise if I offended with my remark the other week I was just **** stirring I didn't mean anything by it and certainly wasn't serious so please accept my apology . Kind regards Mitch

No offense taken, and certainly no apologies necessary. We're all entitled to our opinions. As to the competence of the different models, well a quick check with Wayne Tripp or Carpenter Racing will reveal that they are all capable of producing similar numbers. Beyond that, as noted there are way too many variables to predict the outcome of any silly contest.

When someone, certainly not yourself, starts accusing me of chest thumping and infers that I am claiming something that isn't true, I guess I don't react very well. I just don't appreciate being accused of lying.

Perhaps it just as my wife claims, I'm getting pretty grumpy in my old age.

GPMAZ,

Brother, no need to spoil your day, was saying in best and as you say, its all about the fun we have.

As I am sure most fellas on this site experience, riding a beast like ours means guys are constantly trying to compete and I find it relaxing when I am talking to fellas with the same beast as there is no competition just a shared passion.

Sorry if my chest beating comment revved you up.

LOL, hey I promise when we go for a ride together I'll let you be the faster one. LMAO.

Oh and no mate, I totally believe 147hp a lot of our bikes do come in at that with a bit of work. If you are getting that stock that is awesome as I believe most get in the 130's. Wasn't questioning your number.

Anyhow, with your comment about the rider, I totally 110% agree, that was kinda more my point. I have a mate on a Street triple R 675 and on anything less than straight I can't keep up. You could argue its the bike, but when he rides mine and I jump on his, well same result. Clearly it is him and not what he is riding!

Just as well its all fun, come track days, it is very different, he consistently runs .3 - .8 of a second slower on an open track and I can be more of a bully than him, but we are talking racing Porches with a full cage!

Anyhow, no offence meant by the Roadsters are quicker, it's just that they are. :D

Car tire does wonders for the R3T rear braking capability.

Toronto is dead right about the engine noise, but I have to add: why in the world anyone would want louder pipes is beyond me. After riding 40 years, I'm looking for less noise, not more!!!!!!

Louder pipes create more anti-biker sentiment in the non-riding community than just about anything else we bikers do.

:D

I'm with you on the noise factor, CW. I do like a nice rumble, however, and the stock pipes/cat bypass is about as loud as I want it. Understandable how most cagers equate noise with power and think a Sportster with staight pipes packs some serious wallop. I also understand that any freer flowing exhaust/intake setup will unleash more of the potential of any engine (had the d&ds on mine at first), but it doesn't overrule the noise factor with me. To each their own, of course. I also value my hearing...

Its all good. As to what's quicker, at my age I suspect a lot of Vespa riders will leave me off the line. I've started measuring my reaction time with an hour glass.

As to the power level, with the triple filters, Jardines and a well developed tune (thanks Mr Tripp) these motors are all the same. Getting the power down through the 180 rear tire takes a bit of finesse, but once rolling she moves along quite nicely. Of course, if you leave the windscreen on, and load the bags you're going to pay another penalty.

On the subject of the exuberance surrounding the bikes, I'm probably a lot less dedicated than most. I'm truly impressed with the power and torque these things make, but I wouldn't rate the overall bike at the top of my favorites list. Its too heavy to handle well and the fuel mileage is, well, not impressive. Of course, the mods are responsible for that, and I fully expected that trade off when I started swapping parts. I have a serious addiction to modding every vehicle I own, maybe there's a 12 step program out there somewhere. And, as this is my first foray into the feet forward riding experience, I'm not sure I'd go that route again.

But like I said, they're very impressive bikes. The exclusivity factor alone makes them a hoot to ride around. Nobody quite knows what to make of them. Fear and awe seem to be the predominate reactions. But, as I've owned this one for about as long as anything else, I find myself looking around more and more.

Now, if you keep making fun of my slow R3T, I'm going to bite the bullet, ride back east to Carpenter for a 240 kit, load this fat pig on a barge and come hunting you guys down. Save me some shrimp.

D&D and a car tire

So, the off the shelf D&D Exhaust isn't loud? I owned an 08 R3t July 2010 for about 5 days. Emergency breaking maneuvering around a car and the rear end broke loose on me and high-sided. If a car tire will help, I'm all for it. I would prefer anti-lock breaks. I'm running a Kuhmo 195 rear on an 05 Goldwing now. I miss my Rocket.
