Louder Pipes is it possible

Its all good they arent for everyone, but since when did a rocket run a 180 rear???

This is the Touring forum, they all have 180 rear tires. Its for two reasons. One is for better handling, and the other is to make room for the hard bags.

Personally I rarely use my rear brake. Only for very slow speed maneuvers to stabilize the bike. The engine is pretty noisy, after all it is a huge motor. And the exhaust note is nothing like a V-Twin. With Jardines, and at full throttle it doesn't sound bad, but under normal riding its not a real pleasant sound.

As to riding position, I wish it were more like the Roadster, but I'm not a big fan of the feet forward thing. I removed the heel shifter as I never had one before and after 40+ years of riding I doubt I'd ever get used to it.

But, the bike certainly isn't for everyone. The fact that you rarely see one on the road speaks to that.

So, went and test rode one...this was 2010 touring...well, I was not smiling molar to molar after the ride...Here are my observations...sorry, if I offend anybody...
1. Too much engine noise...my C109 with stock exhaust never had that kind of noice and now with side burners there is none...
2. Torque is great but my C109 is also not bad with the mods I have done....
3. Back tire locked on me twice....once accidently, doing the normal braking the way I will do on my C109...and once intentionally as I practice on my C109...I know 2010 does not have ABS and probably 180 tire can't handle the weight of the motorcycle properly...I have beaten the Sh.... out of Road King, even that won't slide on the side in extreme braking...My wife was sitting behind, even with the extra load the rear wheel locked and the motorycycle skidded on the side...That really put me off...I have applied the full brakes at 60mph on C109 and never ever it has skidded on the side...I will lock in extreme braking but still the bike would go straight...Triumph should think of putting a bigger tire on Touring so that there is more contact and stopping power without locking of the wheel and to avoid the side skid...
4. Did not like the engine and exhaust sound at all...too much noice from engine and hardly any sound from stock exhaust.
5. The riding position was not comfortable at all...all the time my feet were looking for more floor boards to move my feet ahead...to use heel shifter I had to move my foot atlease 6" back...When I rode Harley Road King for 4 days in a course, there was no adjustments required...I never felt odd...
Sorry, friends but Rocket Touring in not my piece of cake...may be in future if they change the riding position with a wider tire and efficient ABS, I will consider it.
Thanks a lot to everyone for valuable input...This site is really great for Rocket III riders...

Tourers aren't real rockets test ride the real deal . I've had a blast on a m109 and I think the rocket is a far better bike

Ahh you mean the slow rocket - ya shoulda said!!! :D:p

Toronto Rider, you clearly need to try a Classic (or Standard with boards) - pre 2010. They go better than the Touring and have a riding position you'd perhaps like better. Also run the 240 rear. The Roadster has the pegs set quite a bit further back. God only knows what Triumph was thinking.:confused::confused:. You can get screen, bags, anything you want to mase it a top touring bike and sounds like it would suit you. I've ridden both M and C 109 and the Rocket leaves them for dead. You just gotta find the right one.

Car tire does wonders for the R3T rear braking capability.

Toronto is dead right about the engine noise, but I have to add: why in the world anyone would want louder pipes is beyond me. After riding 40 years, I'm looking for less noise, not more!!!!!!

Louder pipes create more anti-biker sentiment in the non-riding community than just about anything else we bikers do.

The only comments I get about my loud pipes is how good they sound. The trick is to ride so as not to piss off your neighbours - or others unnecessarily. I do feel that the mechanical noises from our big triples are not the most musical in the bike world and a little bit of "camouflage" does wonders, especially when you add loud sucking noises to the mix.

Dudes, Dyno numbers are really equivalent to Penis size. You see it depends on who measures it, where, how etc etc etc. A truly subjective thing, unless you have a dyno day where you all get together, all dyno on same day by same person on same set-up. Personally, I ride with a bunch of guys from sports to full on tourers and everything in-between.

The fastest of all of us is a guy on a Street Triple R then My Rocket. Now the funny thing is this, doesn't matter which bike Im on and which bike he's on we are always the 2 fastest.

Even funnier is I was riding a girlfriends bike (Ducati 696 Monster) which is a slug but a sweet little machine. Riding through the hills and country roads, I had 3 hyabusas, 2x 1198s's, 3x vrods, a C109R, 2x Speed Triples and a GSXR 1000 and I literally pulled 7 mins on them in 35 kilometres.

Now I don't want to say my pee pee is bigger than yours, but I would like to say, anyone doing the chest beating claiming 147hp on a touring, really ought to not enter into a competition. We all have fast bikes, most of us ride them slow, others easy and some like flipping mad men on a suicide mission.

Simple truth is, Roadsters are faster than tourings and if any Roadster rider wants to stoke your fire let them, don't go wee wee comparing, chances are very high that you will lose!!!!!!!!!!
