Have just completed the first long trip on my Classic and found that my backside started to complain after a couple of hours of non-stop riding. Never had this problem on my H-D Fatboy so am assuming the Rocket seat and my bum ain't quite compatible.

Anyone know how the standard Classic seat and the Longhaul Classic seat differ please?

I can get hold of a new Longhaul for half normal price.

Went to look at the Longhaul today - waste of time, I didn't realise the Longhaul is identical to the standard Classic except for the back rest. :-(

I found out a long time ago that it's in the foam. The stock seat looks nice but it is soft and built with cheap foam with limited support, causing hot spots and general discomfort on long rides. I bought an Airhawk seat pad to just get through a cross country ride and then got a Corbin upon my return. I would assume that you have some good seat builders in UK that can put in some of the high tech/closed cell foam. That stock seats is not going to get any better. Good luck.

Speak to Tom (owl) he had his seat rebuilt in the UK.

I'm talking to a guy in Barcelona who is working out what it'll take to build me a Russell type seat on the Classic/LongHaul seat pan. FibreGlass side wings - viscoelastic "memory" foam and gel pads. He knows Russell seats and is obviously VERY keen to become a reference in Europe for this type of seat too.

imo the main issue with the Triumph seat is a total lack of lateral "cheek" support. The pillion seat is ATROCIOUS. Tried an Airhawk cushion but got fed up of having to adjust air pressure. Airhawks work best for me if I put it where I'm actually NOT actually sitting (like under me 'nads). This sounds odd - but it distributes load better.

Even so - surprised about the Fatboy comment - On my ex-Herritage I NEEDED the Airhawk.

Do you wear GOOD (not fashion) Leather jeans? - if not try this too. ime they hold sagging butt flesh where it's needed.

Interesting comments and have taken note, however before I spend I'm just wondering if my expectations are too high - the sore bums came after spending 2¾ hours non stop in the saddle, I have been on other touring sites and the general consensus is anything over 2 hours is asking for trouble.

Any comments from our more 'iron-arse'd' members.

Just done the BritButt Rally and spent 34 hours in the saddle - even slept on it. Hardly a twinge.

I know I did it on my Pan Eurpean, but you can't get better than a Russell Daylong. I tried the stock seat, stock with an airhaw, a Sargent seat + Sargeant with airhawk and none of them gave me over 6 hours of pain free riding.

Expensive, but you only have to buy it once. Ask Leigh (LMG) - he has one fitted to one of his Rockets.

How many miles and what sort? - I ask as I hit tank range before sore bum on motorways. But I'm getting there.

Not sure if you know the roads but we rode back from the Channel Tunnel along the coastal route, stopped in Shoreham (near Brighton) for an hour for a cupper and sarnie - then on to M27 Rownhams services for ½ hour stop. It was the last stint from Rownhams to home in North Devon that did the damage, mixed roads - motorway - duel carriageway and single lane - none of them that smooth, you must know what British road surfaces are like  .

I thought the Sargent and Russell were bespoke alterations which would mean sending the seat away, no?
