Ignition switch

Question: I have a 2011 Roadster and a 2016 Roadster and I have been unable to verify if the Ignition switch is still a problem on the above referenced bikes? I did search for updates but I don't see anything leading me to believe that there has been a change to the headlight/ignition switch harness.

It's my understanding that they've made some updates so failure is less frequent, but the lines still run hot and it's a good idea to add eastern beaver anyway.

It will be a problem on neither* - the headlight current on Roadster does not go through the Key-Switch

* depends on VIN of the 2011 - Up to 482857 and between 500141 & 503166, the scheme does not include a bypass relay; however I believe these should have been subsequently retrofit to match the later config.

A slightly related question of the key-switch - does your 2016 have the Factory Immobilizer with RFID chipped key?
Just curious - the Triumph marketing literature suggests the 2016 models now have that feature

There is no reason at all why they should run 'hot' - there is no significant current in the circuits through the key-switch.

Anything after 2010 is not going to have the switch problem. The 2010 Roadsters had a recall in which the dealer installed a relay and diverted the amps away from the switch.

The 2011 VIN 489057. So this is good?

The manual doesn't state anything about an immobilizer and the key is identical to the 2011.

Yes

Interesting - there was a recent thread on this question about the immobilizer being new feature for the 2016's (it's already on many of the other Triumph models - Tiger, Street Triple, Speed Triple)
I checked the Triumph website at that time and it indeed had verbiage that confirmed that

Rocket III Touring ABS Alarm and Immobilizer

However I just looked again on both UK & US Triumph web-sites and it says nothing about it ................

Well it's fine by me. Simple is usually reliable!

Thanks so much for the clarity on the switch issue. Leaving for a week ride with both bikes and I freaked out. Little reading other folks issues with the switch!

... Little reading other folks issues with the switch!

It's predominantly issues on the std/classic models; there have been a couple recently with connector issues on R3T's but those are pretty isolated, not widespread like the original issue.
