How to remove Secondaries

Very good video Hardy. Kiinda simplifies it. Did mine several weeks back with the aid of it.

So I want to remove the secondaries but if I leave the air intake as standard what difference will I notice. Why are the secondaries there in the first place if removing them makes a big improvement.

Triumph did it to try to hold down the HP & try to improve MPG but we have proven otherwise. Think of like this. Unless you have went into the ecu via tuneboy or tuneecu & opened them 100%, your sec. throttles are not opened 100% all the time. If they're only opened 30%, then thats 70% less air your motor breathes choking down performance. If they,re opened 100% all the time then the motor breathes alot better. Leading to better throttle response & better performance. Also its my understanding that if the motor goes into limp home mode that the sec. throttles close completely permitting the motor from barely running. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on the limp home mode.

Thanks for that "Rocketeerman" seems logical now, I assume then that even with stock air filtration then without the secondaries breathing will be considerably better.

One more question - When I remove the secondaries will it need a new map or will a 12 min tune up suffice ?

I definitely suggest a new tune If you have the means. With tuneecu its relatively simple. ALso if you have to remove the stock plenum. It would be a good time to synchronize your throttle bodies.

When I removed mine all I did was 12 minute tune and all is well.

Sure it will run, that engine will cope with a range of Af's but the old 12 min tune only sets idle/low rev fuelling. More of a question of you will get more power if you optimise the air/fuel ie dyno it.

it apears that in the standard tune 4th and 5th gears run with fully open secondarys
so a diferent tune is not needed when removing the secondarys on stock bikes
but if you have made any of the intake or exaust more free flowing then ritchened the tune with a canned tune (226/228 )
the secondarys are closed to ritchen the tune and by removeing them you run the risk of going lean

lots of riders have aftermarket exausts, cat deletes and K&N drop in filters and would love to open the secondarys to 100%
but untill somebody posts a properly dyno'd tune it's not safe (tune ECU tunes needed)

i suspect that the stock bike straight from the factory would out drag most bikes that have been modified by there owner
(F/A and properly dynoed bikes excluded)

Not true mate
Lean still makes good power but is no good for the engine.
My old bike with a few mods was 152rwhp but lean as buggery
