Garmin Wiring

I just used an 'add-a-circuit' from auto-zone and plugged
it into the fuse box (#8 for the instrumentation lights).
I wired the ground to the negative terminal on the battery.
Turns the GPS off when I turn the key off; knowing me, I'd
forget.

I installed my Zumo a couple of weeks ago. I wired it directly to the battery. As others have said, I don't leave it in the mount if it's out of sight so running the battery down isn't a concern to me.

GPS wiring for dummies

Righto, a number of you say that you can wire the GPS direct into the accessories wiring on R3T (heated grips, light bar etc). As l live in a warmish climate with mild winters, the warmer grips are not a likely purchase. However, I have no idea what the accessories wiring harness looks like or how you plug into it. Can someone please take pity on me and give me step by step instructions, or even better, a photo or two of how to connect to the heated grip accessory socket, i would be trully grateful. :)

I have a wiring kit for the GPS with a transformer on it from 12v to 5v - I just don't know where to connect it.

Scottee, consider getting a PC-8 from eastern beaver for your hook ups. tdragger has one on his bike and I have one on the way. The web site is easternbeaver.com. Here's a link to tdragger's install.

I use my GPS on multiple bikes so I went the Cyco-Active route and installed their isolastic mount on both bikes. They aren't cheap but the have a dedicated dock plus mine has a mount for the Traffic-Nav antenna. They also lock in the GPS with a pin tumbler lock so no one can lift it. The isolastic mount is shock and vibration insulated as well.

Makes a RAM mount look like a soda straw.

They are designed for dual sport bikes so they are rugged and built.
