Front brakes are just not right!

I don't think it is a pad problem. I raised the front to find the spot where the brakes actually kicked in. My lever moves too much before I actually get braking action. I squeeze, get lights then a over an inch into travel, I get some brake. from that point it is ok.
Maybe I'm looking too deep into this but I feel I should have better braking control. Is this the ways R3 are???

Not mine. It does sound like something's wrong. My brakes start to grab pretty much immediately after the light comes on.

Just a thought if you have access to a Dial gauge check to see if your Rotors are warped if they are throwing the pads back into the calipers between braking it could be the rotors need replacing if you dont have a dial gauge try while having the front of the ground apply the brakes ..let them ..off .. and see if there is much resistance to you turning the wheel, there should be a little at first but not a lot .... as I said just a thought

If I put new pads in I have great feel but after 3k I start the trouble over again. While watching the brakes work I noticed that the calipers go out when I grab the lever and when I release it the caliper returns. It is not supposed to return. I think a check valve is bad in the master. I tryed something that worked but seemed strange till it worked. I squeezed the lever and then put my finger in the master over the return hole. the Caliper did not return and the lever was great.

that would explain it if the check valve is sticking it would have similar effect as a warped disk.... good work 64Herald, have you looked in to claiming it on warranty or if not cover anmore, remove master clcinder and take it to a brake specalist unless you are comfortable dismantling it, you migt find a simple bit of **** stoping the check valve from returning into its seat

I jsut bought a used master off ebay an will look into it after the Holidays. I wonder if Triumph sells a rebuilding kit. I am not in warrenty any longer

I Fixed it! I went out and bleed again, no help. Decided to pull the calipers off. Bingo! Not all four pucks were working in unison. On the left side, the inboard side moved and the outboard were a bit sticky. I clamped the i/b and worked the brake and moved the pucks in and out a couple of times. Now on the left side, all four pucks are working somewhat evenly. Did the same on the right and when I got it back together, it worked just as the microswitch tripped...I started getting brakes. I am pretty sure, just from sitting, only one of the pucks on the left side was really working. So, as I squeezed....all the fluid was filling the excessivly retracted single puck. That explains the excess travel in the handle.
It is really crappy weather here in Ohio right now and I did not ride it but I am positivly sure it is fixed. I squeeze the lever...I GOT BRAKES!!!! just like my wing.
