Living Legend
Went to get some oil for my 240.
Carpenter recommended Amsoil Marine grade diesel full synthetic so i stopped by my local Amsoil dealer.
The oil guy, a very knowledgeable old man told me that that was old oil configuration, so while i was there, i called Carpenter.
This is what i found out;
Since the oil they used to recommend is no longer available or hard to get, they now recommend Amsoil Dominator, 100% Synthetic 15w-50 racing oil.
I asked them if this oil viscosity would make it hard to start in the cold weather, he said no.
Also asked him if he knew anything about the Carpenter Rockets being hard to start in the cold weather, he said he never heard of it and he would like to gather more info on the subject, i told him that mine would not start below 40 degrees no matter what i do or try, he acted surprised about it.
Next question was about valve adjustments; He asked Bob, ad i could hear him on the back saying no valve checking intervals recommended because they have not seen a Carpenter Rocket come out of spec yet. so no valve checks recommended. He also said they base this claim on guys riding 30k miles in one year without needing any valve adjustments.
Last, but no least; I asked what happened to the famous (or infamous) Art, he said age and everything related to it creeped up to him, and sadly, he is now in assisted living conditions
And that my fellow Carpenter Captains, is my report. Hope someone can find it useful.
