Well, I am digging up this old thread because the issue is still there, intermittent but still there. Relays have been changed, twice. Brand new battery, checked and double checked. Speedometer went bad and has been replaced. I have been through the wiring with a fine tooth comb, can't see anything. I have printed out all of your inputs, suggestions, ideas as to the cause of the issue. Lately it has been occuring more so this is going to be my winter project, fix the **** thing.
Here is a run down of what I have done so far, all WHEN the bike was in the fault mode. The starter button wire R/W, works perfect slightly under 12v with the clutch in and button depressed. Fuses 5, 8, and 9 all are just under 12v also.
Some added information that I also found when testing in fault, again keep in mind the neutral light is on and everything works, lights, turn signals, horn, but the Gipro is blinking and nothing when you hit the starter button. For the first time I put the bike in gear, when that took place the Gipro went completely dark, blank screen. When you flip the kill switch or turn the key a couple of times the bike recycles and fires up perfectly.
I had the positive of the Gipro connected to the hot side of the battery, but have since moved it with a splice to the taillight wire which I found had a slight abrasion, so I soldered it in killing two birds with one stone.
Checking the ECU relay on the left side shows power to pin 30 with the key off, key on produces power to 30 86 and 87 when the bike is not in fault mode. In fault mode a test showed there was no power to pin 87 I believe, now the **** thing won't act up so I am calling it a night and coming back after the bike sits for a while. All tools, testers are still out so I am not giving up. Nothing worse than a f^%&*&g intermittent electrical problem.
Thought I would bring this back up and see if there were anymore suggestions or avenues I haven't gone down. Like Lloyd Bridges in Airplane, I sure picked a fine time to quit drinking.......
