Easier seat bolts?

The detent balls lock in place until the button is pushed. They won’t pull through otherwise. Rubber washers on the pins allows fit adjustment. If the seat flys off It’s probly the least of my problems at the moment anyway. What’s the downside?

What keeps the long ones from backing out of the front of the seat to the ball detent?

Nothing, I wanted them longer so they would be easier to get my fingers on, they are still under the edge of the seat, just not as far as the bolt heads were. Off to the hardware store tomorrow for rubber washers to make them fit tight.

I like the outside the box thinking, it is a great idea. I will be watching to see how yours does and may follow suit.

I was looking at doing something like this, but the smallest I could find is M8 and that required drilling the threads out on the seat mounts. I didn’t want want to be that permanent as I tend to be fickle with minor mods. So instead I just got two 90mm long M8 lag bolts with a flanged jamb nut and have them a little more than finger tight. The bags keep the exposed bolt head a little less obvious and the smooth shank protects the seat edge.

Please let us know your steps to install.

 
@Mad Dog, did you have to drill the threads out of your seat mounts? If not, these are better than the bolt idea (IMHO) because they won’t back out accidentally and have a “no tools required“ release.
 
Cheap and functional with no tools if just finger tight! Great idea.
 
I like your thinking. I am very interested in seeing how your experiment works. I would think one would only need enough length on the shaft to go through the nut. It looks like there would be enough material below the dome for one's fingers to get hold of the dome while pushing in the button to pull it out. I am not understanding how you are going to use the rubber washers?
 

I think he is going to stack the rubber washers so that the knob sticks out beyond the edge of the seat?
That’s they only thing I can think of.
