2013 Rocket III Touring
Brand new to the forum having just given up my Triumph Bonneville America and purchasing a 2013 Rocket III Touring for my birthday last week. I have just over 1,000 miles on her already and love it.

Now for the twenty thousand dollar question. I have done some over nights on my America, but I am planning on an 8,000 mile cross country trip for diabetes beginning July 12th and am going to need some more storage capacity.

We will be spending 5 nights in Sturgis too on the way back across the country, ohh rahhh.

I sure would appreciate some suggestions.

Thanks;

Eric

Just a thought .. a hitch and trailer decorated with the Diabetes cause..heaps of strorage

I would rather stay away from a trailer. I was looking at the Aerostich catalog and thinking possibly about the Wolfman Beta Plus bag and putting it over the passenger seat. I will be able to put some "stuff" in the chase vehicle. Or possibly the Motofizz bags, but I have no experience using either and am hoping for some input.

Thanks for the response.

I did the USA 4 Corners Tour in 2010 on my R3T. The attached photo ain't purty, but it was how I traveled and it worked fine.

You can look into T Bags (great idea) or a rear "pizza box"" carrier for added capacity.

Travel light, freeze at night (learned that in the USMC).

Thanks.

Going to be an awesome ride. Ground zero, Boston Harbor, the Vietnam Wall, Loisville, Amarillo, Flagstaff, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, and of course Sturgis. I am pumped

JMO..I wouldn't spend 5 nights in Sturgis 5 hours is enough... The sissy bar will be helpful.

Okay.. I travel light.. I pack a few pants, enough undies for the trip, a few shirts.. and buy some extra shirts along the way. I usually camp, so I have a $30 buck 2-man tent from Target. The bulkiest thing I carry is a sleeping bag, which sits behind me and acts as a back rest. Sometimes I carry rain gear, but I hardly every use it unless it's going to be raining all day long.

My biggest worry is tires, but you have a Touring so your tire sizes should be readily available IF you have a problem. I never have had a tire problem on a trip, but I know 240/50-16 (or 240/55-16) tires don't grow on trees. You might take along some tire plugs and a can of fix a flat.

The main thing is enjoy the scenery. 5 days in Sturgis IS worth it. Ride around, see Mt Rushmore, Devil's Tower, etc.. Hit a concert at the Buffalo Chip.. it's a BLAST, even if you just sit back on your bike and enjoy the show..

I plan on going again next year.. My buddy's sons turn 21 next year so we're going to ride up there and try not to get caught getting in trouble.. lol
