coolant leakage

The red warning light came on the other day when I went out for a ride.
I pulled over and after a minute or so a small puddle of coolant had formed underneath.

(A methhead came over to help diagnose things.We got rid of him and as he walked across the park,the breeding magpies began to swoop him and attack his head as he fought them off with a stick.
You would have to be here to see how funny it looked LOL.)

Anyway,we topped up with some drinking water I had on me and got to a friends house,checked the 3 pump bolts ,all was good there.

It could be leaking from the o ring at the back of the pump,can it leak coolant from there?
I wasnt sure if that is coolant or oil in there???
No coolant in oil that I could see.

I filled it up properly at my friends house and rode a 100klms on the freeway from Mandurah.
I stopped halfway and checked for leakage,but there was only a few drops underneath the pump.
I got home and put a tray underneath but nothing has leaked after 48 hrs.

My theory is that it has had a minor leak for some time and the coolant level has dropped to the point where it has overheated and caused the red light to come on.
The pressure built up and forced more coolant out of the leak and once it has cooled,the leak has become minor again.

I havent pulled it apart yet as I have been waiting for the dealer to reopen today so I can get parts.
I have one of those rockets where you cant see through the coolant tank to check the level,even when you shine a light behind it with the bearclaw off,it is very difficult to tell.****ed annoying.

same thimg happened to me level went down when i was fitting kand ns forgot to top up and light came on after 300highway miles im a big traffic jam
drove down hard shoulder at speed until light went out and made it to a store for bottle of water must drain and re top up tomorrow

..mine did the same..real small leak from water pump area..I put a thin line of gasket sealer around the o-ring behind the pump..it worked..so far so good..almost 20,000 miles ago..

Was that an oil leak or coolant leak? When I pulled the water pump out there was oil in the block,only a 1/4 of a cup or so.Definately not coolant.

Well,it looks like its coming from the weep hole in the pump anyway. Hoses seem ok but I already have one new one so Ill replace the other while its off.
I wonder how much the pump will cost?

I dunno,but it was like a scene from Hitchcocks "The Birds" ,except with a crazy methhead swinging a branch around.
I wonder what was going through his head.

Remove the bolt from which it is leaking. Put a little bit of gasket goo (or something similar) around the threads of the bolt from the head to about half way down. Put the bolt back in and tighten it up. The leak will stop.

There is supposed to be a rubber o-ring in there, but sometimes they don't make it back in.

There is no bolt,it appears to be coming from a 3mm weep hole at the back of the pump. Most water pumps have one.

You can see the pink coolant encrustation around the hole.

Stop putting water in the top, after a while it will stop coming out the bottom. Obvious!

Dunno what to do about the light, tho. Sticky tape dot????

Seriously, but.....

That hole oughta be between the water pump water seal (around the shaft) and the engine. So if water's coming out, the seal's shot. Doubt it can be repaired. New pump??
