Hello freecrowder and welcome from VA. Since you are an engineer, buy the bike and I bet any issues that come up can be handled by your own wrenches.

OK is it correct from some other post that a parts kit is available to fix the problems of the 2005 model year?

Not sure if they are still available. They were last summer for about $210.00 from bikebandit. I heard the supply was going to run out at some point. The kit is right from Triumph and contains probably $2000.00 worth of goodies.

Just thinking(that's dangerous) would it be a good idea to spend the money to get the spares at a bargain price for a later model like my 2011 Touring " just in case" or would I end up with a lot of stuff to go with all the other JIC spares I have accumulated in the shed for everything I have owned :cautious:

The update kit is a bargain but the labor is going to set you back an estimated 26 hrs and from my research right around $3500.00 and that's a healthy down stroke on a new bike.
