Considering an R3? Whats accel like?

To all members born prior to 1965...I have jumped into the fray with a bang. Sorry about ruffling feathers.

I do not doubt any other person's riding abilities. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses.

I am sure that there are guys who out ride me in their sleep, but I would gather to bet that the main reason most of us ride is not to see who can out ride whom.

I ride simply for the love of riding. Testing my skills on a sport bike or enjoying the scenery on the Rocket or the 919.

I am a lone wolf rider by nature. Can't stand to ride in packs or groups. Tried it, hate it. Too many stops, too rigid of a schedule and route. I like to get on the bike and go. If I change plans and courses on a whim, I don't ask if the other riders mind, I just go.

I have only logged 643 miles the first week on the Rocket and except for the fact that it wont shift (another story), I love the bike. I am looking forward to cruising this beast all up and down the West Coast, from San Diego to Seattle.

Yes, I can ride all day 6, 7, 8 hours at a stretch on the ****** rocket and no discomfort at all. I love it.

I'm finally posting back!

Well its been awhile since I started this post! Can you blame me?...Cause after that demo ride last fall, I sold that VTX and bought one of the first 2007 R3 Tourers on the market. I've been riding so much that I just haven't have time to post back. WOW this post sure has taken on a life of its own!
I love this bike! It is everything I have ever wanted in a motorcycle.....yes it is. The sportbike guy(919) of course is right about how his sport bikes are quicker....yep anything after 40 mph. But I know one thing, I don't ride just to be the quickest to 100 mph, I ride to the quickest bike, 2-up, to a hundred with my wife comfortably sitting on the back....yes she loves racing these things. I'd like to see that Hybusa with a passenger and saddle bags pass us up with ease! The wife and I love riding around, taking it all in, and all the while talking to each other. We pack a cooler in the saddle bag so when we stop for a break, we have cold drinks ready to go. We got caught in some serious rain few weeks ago....we pulled over just before the rain pounded us, grabed our rain suits out of the other bag, put them on and continued riding right through it. Yes that extra weight of the Rocket gives you a good advantage while driving on rain slick roads....it pushes the water out from under the tires easily. Just don't be trying to do over 70 mph.

I could have easily saved thousands of dollars and got a faster ****** rocket, but when you really think about it, a ****** rocket like the Haybusa is truly only good for one thing...racing. The Rocket III is good at a bunch of things, not just one. Its like a multi purpose vehical. I could tow a trailer, mount a stereo, make it a trike, easily ride 2-up, ride through rain storms, watch as bug explode across my extra large windshield and not my face, even tow a small car like a honda civic if needed. It has power and personality.

Even if next year they make a bigger faster cruiser, I will still love my bike. If you have the fastest ****** rocket today, beware of the next years model, cause then you don't have the fastest bike. Its a terrible cycle...like how my computer is allready out-of-date...I just bought it dam-it!!!!

I'm glad I purchased my beloved R3.....why did I wait soooo long?

Cheers everyone, be safe and dress for the slide, not for the ride.

I am very interested in purchasing a new R3 for year 2007. I was curious if anyone has heard of major differences coming in 2007? Also I have been reading about the idle/stalling probs on some bikes, and hope for an official responce from Triumph.
I purchased a new bike last year (VTX) and am very unhappy with throttle responce. I would like to know from you current R3 owners how often you find the bottom of the throttle? When I first got the bike, I hardly used 100% throttle, but now I have it there all the time and I hate doing that. I want a bike that will dam near pull a wheelie when that throttle goes to 100%...will the R3 do that? Please post what this bike(R3) will do when starting from a dead stop....up to 60 mph? Please be honest if this bike is sluggish in anyway. I would get a racing bike if not for wanting to ride 2 up with the wife. Posts from 2-up riders welcome also. The local shops around here don't offer "test" rides, so thats why I need answers like these. Will the bike keep up with some ******-rockets? Thanks, John from Pensacola, Florida.

If you ride without a windshield, bring a toothbrush because you will be brushing the bugs of your teeth from smiling so much....awesome accel, none other out there.

Just after leaving the dealership with my new Rocket III (that was in Aug '04) I went over to my ex-wife's place and picked up my youngest son (15 years old at the time) to take him for a ride. As he got on the bike, I remindedx him that this thing had a lot of torque, so hang on. We hadn't gone about 5 miles when a green light changed to yellow---I knew I could easily make it through the lite before it even turned "pink", so I gassed it. Next thing I knew was my kid's ankles were in my armpits as he was rolling off the back of the seat!!!!! I slammed the throttle shut, and that brought him back up our helmets crashed together. I immediately rode to the dealer and ordered the backrest for my passenger. Yes, this bike has plenty of "OOMPH".

Great save Slick! How's the son's eye's , have they returned to normal :D

Thanks mtnman for the deciphering. :D

919, I can understand why you ride alone.

Pig9er, what the heck is this noise, you were born in seventy five? thanks for making me feel like an old fart. i'll be 60 this coming november, but i'm still riding, and since i got my rocket 3 a couple of weeks ago, my streetglide, the zrx 1200-R, the fxr, and even my honda big ruckus haven't been touched. the rocket is just so much fun to ride and comfortable too. after riding it home when buying it a couple of weeks ago, i parked it in my shop and immediately hopped on my 08 streetglide. ya know, i always thought my streetglide was a big bike, but after riding the rocket, the streetglide feels almost like a 250 motocrosser in comparison. and as far as this kid who gets a kick out of gixxers, good for him, i guess. some people's kids, huh? go figure. back to the original thread, get a rocket three, i've had about 60 bikes through the years having ridden legally since 1965, and my 08 rocket 3 classic just has presence that a harley does not have. i dig my streetglide and fxr, but they're common whereas the rocket 3 has character, and its size is intimidating to say the least, as is the power. i've had beemers, guzzis, a few ducatis, even a laverda, benelli, bonnevilles, and several harleys. each has their niche, but the rocket 3's pissed off gorilla power makes me think that it's capable of altering the rotation of the planet when you give her the gas. when i'm riding my rocket 3 i don't go out in the lot to try to figure out which vivid black streetglide is mine. did i mention that it always draws a crowd and people will be recording your bike with their cell phones or camera as you're riding down the highway? become a superstar, get that rocket, you know you want it.
