Confused about sissy bar and backrest pad

Mully I have the tall bar but had both backrest and let the wifey choose which one she like better. The classic pad is what she chose as it seemed to curve and support her better. She also chose the classic touring seat as well. That being said I to also sat on the back to see what I would prefer and the Classic pad would also be my choice.

Jim did you purchase everything after you bought the Roadster? If so can you post the part numbers?

Fellows what are the advantages of having an short one and a tall sissy bar?

Idaho red rocket.... thanks for the pictures. Where did you get you seats on your bike? That pillion seat would be perfect for my girlfriend.

Classic back rest kit: A9708177
Quick release sissy bar: A9750516

Hi Mully. The Pillion seat is a big improvement over the standard bar stool pad Triumph provides. First I had a custom auto/motorcycle fab shop expand the pillion seat pan by about 7 inches to the width and about 3 inches rearward. Then I had a local upholstery shop re-pad and cover it. It was better than the barstool pad, but still not very comfortable. Then I met Rick Mayer at a motorcycle rally in John Day, OR. He told me about how he uses orthopedic foam in his seats and shapes it to your butt and riding position. So the wife and I made an appointment at his shop in Anderson, California and went over there while on a vacation and had Rick and his crew custom build what you see in those pictures above. Very nice work and very affordable.

The pictures below are from the first attempt done locally here in the Boise area. The pan expansion was the key to the good work done later by Rick Mayer.

The part number A9750516 is coming back to http://shop.triumphmotorcycles.com/Backrests/id-A9750516/Quick_Release_Sissy_Bar_Kit which is for a thunderbird.

I guess you're trying to show me the wide backrest pad correct?

It looked like there was some time spent on your seats because they look so comfortable.

I would be interested in the your first attempt if you might want to sell it.

When I was placing the order, the parts guy mentioned that the description was for the Thunderbird. I questioned this and he called Triumph and they said it was the correct one for the Rocket. I told him to go ahead and order them then. And that's what they put on the bike..

Now you understand why Im confused? LOL

Ok this is actually the wide backrest pad. I've went to another dealer website that shows just the pad for this part number.

I had the tall bar and Classic Pad on. Matches the Riders backrest on the Classic seat. Ended up fitting a cheap trunk with a backrest as the missus felt she was leaning back to far.

Be VERY cautious with Triumph P/N's. For example - the headlamp looms for the R3 and old Speed Triple have the same stock number - but are very different.

Ok........ I decided to go with the short backrest part #A9738071 and the backrest pad part #A9708177

I went with the short because I think it will look better with the Utopia riders backrest that I already have installed. My girlfriend seems to think as long as she has something to lean against she will be happy and that she likes the idea of the backrest being in the lower back area.

Thanks to everyone that posted!
