*CLICK* Rocket III shut off and coasted to a stop ???

if your getting spark, turn the motor over a bit then pull a plug to see if theres fuel on it

Ran out of time to check it till today. Everything is looking good except - got the tank off today pulled a plug cap and put a fresh plug in - absolutely no spark.

Checked all the fuses as mentioned they are all good.

Three relays on left, marked them F/M/R for front middle rear and tried moving them around as I don't have a manual - no change.

Did notice a small relay on the right hand side of the battery box next to the blinker... didn't mess with those.

Any suggestions? Zero spark to the plugs...

I put the battery on charge tonight, and will go back over and see if I see anything loose going to the coils etc...

Thanks
Mike

Yes guages sweep fine, both headlights on, everything looks good but no spark.

Mellow Yellow I'll check that thin wire tomorrow - I did reach down and see that it was there, and that it disappeared up into the frame - but I'll check it again with better light... thx

Check pages 18.36 and 18.37 of the manual for the start circuit. The three blocks for the ECM are the sidestand switch, clutch switch and gear position sensor. Any one of those three will prevent spark to the plugs. The starter relay [block 4] is working fine. Your sisdestand switch [block 8] is OK. Your clutch switch may be where your problem is.

If the clutch switch were the problem then the starter motor wouldn't work so I doubt that it is that. It would be unusual for all three coils to fail at the same instant so I doubt that they are the problem, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure that the low tension cable connections are clean and that all the connections are good. I think that either a connection to the ECU or the ignition switch are the main suspects.

The manual may be downloaded from the signature of any post by Bishop.

Looks to me like the clutch switch goes to ground when closed to energize the ciruit. The starter relay closes when the starter switch is closed from the B24 connector. If I read this right, the yellow brown wire is hot coming out of the ECM. Makes the 4 to 6 solenoid enrgize to close the relay gate. Coming out of the relay gate is a white/red wire to the starter switch at connection 11. When you close the switch (normally open contact) the 12 connection goes to ground through the 5-3 connection in the harness link connector. Changes to a green/red wire to the fuel pump relay connector 1 and then to the engine management relay at connection 6 back to ground at connection 4.

Of course I could be screwed up, I think I'm going back to bed (got a cold). Good luck.

You could try to clean the crank shaft sensor, this part is what we use for a distributor . It can get metal stuck to the magnet and , Well it is not going to work very well at all. Its under the engine near the starter. it is in a vertical position straight in to the engine, it has a oring seal and a little oil may come out but not much. Its worth a look.

Yeah clutch switch is working it has to be pulled in or engine won't turn over. Kickstand and gear switches working as it won't turn over with kickstand down and/or in gear. After the fuses those were the first things I checked.

I'll go over your posts again and see if I see anything I haven't checked.

As of right now - everything "looks" good all the switches appear to be working but I pulled the plug wire as mentioned and zero spark. I'm going to check and see if juice is even getting to the coils tomorrow... if not, then I'll have to figure out where to go from there. I've heard some say ignition switch, what color wire?

BTW, I did see a manual was avail from one of the posters, so I'll go find that and do a download thanks for sure on that one!

YOu can look at your ignition switch for a loose connection. The ECM is not allowing the coils to charge, so it could be a faulty ECM. My old Trophy 1200 had an 'igniter' that was waaay pricey but rarely failed. Much more and I'd recommend you take it to the dealer for troubleshooting (unless you have a OBDII device to read your ignition system).

You can also trace the low tension wires from the coils back to the ECM and look for obvious things like broken wires.

Manual's limitation is it doesn't show the wiring for the ignition system. (at least mine doesn't)
