Chasin a Gremlin.....

Well Kevin, this is a 2015 engine, that I put in this 2005 bike. Originally, I kept and used the old throttle body assembly, injectors and all (05). Ran fine. While trying to find this bug, I installed the throttle body assembly with injectors, that was originally on this engine. No noticeable difference. My next choice, is to switch the crank sensor. It looked fine, but who knows. Most of this stuff either works, or doesn't work, but I'm grabbing at straws. She had better straighten up soon. The longer it takes, the more of a beating it's going to get, when fixed. I'll do the tune ecu thing later. All I need now, is for my laptop to throw a fit. ;)
Have you tried replacing spark wires on that cylinder, might be worth replacing or switching plugs in that cylinder.

Must be that time when the Christchurch blokes are reading the worries of the rocket type.
@Tal Was there too.
I had a miss on my 06 Rocket 260 miles from home I knew what it was as soon as it started. Bike was great at the posted speed limit but go 5mph over that and I was back on 2 cylinders.

So a long ride home.

Got home straight into the garage lifted the tank and the spade terminals where hardly attached to no 1 coil.
They basically came off when I touched the wires.

So gave them a bit of a squeeze with the pilers and spent the next 25 minutes trying to get them back on.

Haven't had any trouble with that part of the bike since.

On the next big ride away I had the throttle tube broke @Tal was on that ride too.

I see a pattern forming here 😲

So check these wires and spade connection are clean and tight fitting.

No nicks or cuts in the wires or frayed at the spade connector.

Thanks a lot, you Guys. What a beautiful site this is, and all it's great people. I'll get-r-done sooner or later. BIG problem I have is my age, bad arthritis, amongst many other physical things. VA has me at 100% disabled. When I have a good day, like yesterday, I get out there and bust my butt. Then the next day (today) I can hardly move. Such is the life I have, but I still consider myself blessed. Went to air up the flat rear on my Kawasaki ZRX1200r, that has been sitting for a few months, and found the valve stem broke off. Glad that didn't happen on a ride. 2 Harley's growing mold. Everything tagged and running (cept for 05). I just can't keep up with 6 motorcycles and can't deal with the public when it comes to selling something. I'll keep all dis stuff, for the man that inherits it when I'm gone. I'll hook up Tune ECU, maybe later today, and see what she says. Thanks again all. ;)

Are the throttles balanced -tune ecu.

If you can kill your headlights and tail lights, you might fire it in the dark and see if you are leaking out the plug leads. I had an old chevy that ran crappy at idle but accelerated just fine. When I popped the hood open at night it looked like a lighning storm going off under the hood when I hit the gas. Replaced all the leads and no more idle problem. Keep us posted.

I had that same thing happen, lol, I didn't believe my mechanic buddy, it went from starting fine to no start overnight, so he opened the hood at night for me, holy cow.

Eureka !!!! OK, yesterday while it was running poorly, it had a bad smell, like it was out of time or something. Remember when in the old days, once in awhile you'd shut off your car, and it would keep chugging, and making fumes that watered your eyes? So this morning, I limped out, and sorted out the vacuum hoses to the map sensor. Yup, I had them all wrong. PRESTO! She's running pretty good now, idle and everything. Check engine light on, but will do Tune Ecu later. However, I notice a slight tap tap tap, almost a knock, at idle. Oh well, it will sort itself out on the street. Maybe it's one of the bolts I dropped! (kidding) Thanks to all for the help. I'll do a video when possible. BTW, I had no idea that the map sensor had such an enormous effect on the running. If you have doubts, pull that vacuum hose off the map sensor, while it's idling....... :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :):):):):):):):):):)
