I'm just curious...

Carpenter's exhaust system, sans muffler, is by no means obnoxiously loud. TORS and Jardines at speed are noisier and, in any event, if you want to tone them down, there are numerous baffles that you can fit to the Carpenter pipe.

...Phil...we've had two more less normal telephone conversations and unless you were using some advanced hearing augmentation system it seemed to me my low decibel murmurings registered just fine with you.

SO...when you say Carpenter Pipes are "by no means obnoxiously loud." I'm more than a trifle confused. Because this exhaust system is, beyond any doubt, without question, the LOUDEST SETUP I'VE EVER SUBJECTED MY ALREADY DIMINISHED HEARING TO!!!!! "Gabriel's Trumpet" may have been an understatement! When we fired these puppies up the bodywork techs from Premier Collision across the street came running over to see where the earth had just ruptured in some seismic cataclysm!!!!! Really, you can probably hear this titanic report at least a mile away! Not good around cops...or neighbors.

Mind you all; I'm at least half deaf. I twice failed my DOT physical hearing exam even WITH $2,500 hearing aides in place! Seems my misspent youth consisted of very loud rock and jazz music, lots of dangerous fireworks and homemade pyrotechnics, lots of even more dangerous high powered guns, regular scuba diving (I am from Hawai'i, after all, and a rabid/avid water baby)...and loud-assed bikes. Consequently, I obliterated my hearing quite effectively over these boisterous years. Despite the above, AND, even with these decimated ears, these Carpenter pipes split my cranium! My always ringing ears have gone up an octave:(

Ahem. These beautiful, high pro pipes are "ticket magnets" on an order that redefines loud and obnoxious! Imagine the most egregious Harley running shorty straights and these pipes are TWICE AS LOUD!!!! The Megaphone is no exaggeration folks! My VTX sports a Hard Chrome Sideburner exhaust; quite loud. Louder than most HDs. It sounds tame as a burbling brook compared to this crazed rocket bazooka! Sounds like a huge John Deere tractor being force-fed molten hot 2" re-bars:eek:

SOOOOOOOOoooooo......I called Carpenter today. They have apparently already heard...or anticipated...this complaint (by the newly deaf I suspect). They are busily working on a BAFFLE for this canon to be released in about two weeks. Un-baffled, these babies will get you a ticket anywhere near a constable and this thunderous, ear shredding scream makes the bike unusable for the street. Track use only.

So Phil...I take it your pipes are baffled??? Or are you even more deaf than meself:D:rolleyes:

I got the impression they were extra loud when I saw that vid they took at night a while back

Yes mine arrived but I am eagerly waiting on the 3 inch ID baffle. After listening to you I am glad I did not let up on Bob and Art about wanting a baffle:D
Fine workmanship I must add the welds are the best I have seen on a pipe yet and I have seen some good ones.

Can you hear me now?

I'll be wanting one of those 3" baffles too. No way I can tool around Denver on this sonic boom generating bike in its current state. You could point this mortar at the incredible hulk, twist the throttle, and send him into the next county! I can probably give this horrific, sound warping machine the full monty and you blokes down under will hear it! Pretty soon, without a baffle, I won't hear anything at all...

THANKS FOR THE UPDATES ALL..:D.. I AM CONSIDERING THE CARPENTER EXHAUST.. AND WAS ABOUT TO CALL N INQUIRE.. MY EARS RING ANYWAY.. THE BAFFLE SHOULD HELP TONE THE SONIC BOOM DOWN..:bch:

I dunno, drac? Either Art isn't telling me about some secret, stealth baffle that's on his Silverback as well as on Carpenter's dragbike (both of which I've ridden) or I'm way more deaf than I thought!:D

Honestly, I'm gonna' have to ask him if he's been pulling my leg because the setup on his Beast is way tamer and infinitely more sedate than those on 90% of the Hardleys we see and hear at our favorite hangout (New Hope, PA). BTW, the cops in No Hope are notoriously hardcore regarding loud, obnoxious pipes and they have never even given Art's a second look. In fact they've actually told him how nice they sound, so I am really perplexed by the description of yours being somewhere off of the sonic chart, so to speak.

BTW, my ride won't be modded for about another month or so. Still, I'm not really understanding why you perceive the Carpenter exhaust as so loud. I had V & H Big Shots on both of my VTX 1800s and they were both way louder than the Carpenter array.
