BK, several things could be causing it. I'll assume the following:

You have noticed it over various weather conditions, clothes, wind, load conditions, etc. It has gotten progressively worse, regardless. The bike is becoming too uncomfortable to ride...

I'll also assume you have the factory tunes and exhaust system.

Several causes-yeah, check coolant being the least likely but do it-it's under the bearclaw (lift tank first-how to section).

More than likely it is your factory tune, which is lean all over the map at times-but mainly around cruising speeds. A lean engine generates a lot more heat, since the fuel "cools" the combustion process prior to firing. Over time, this could be causing your bike to get "heat soaked." A proper tune with a PC3/TB and dyno is an expensive, yet superb way of solving this problem.

It could also be your exhaust, especially if you have a full cat box. Those things cause and hold a tremendous amount of heat, and it is directly under you-it gets worse if it is somehow clogged. Removing of the cat, or going with an empty cat box (they are all full in '06's) and retune could help as well.

And lastly, going to a full moto Mobil synthetic of a 10W40 weight reduces felt temperatures, increases power & economy, though adds some noise (does not mean it's not working-just has to due with harmonics).

FWIW, I have done all of these things to my Ex's Kawa Mean Streak which used to be too hot to ride, regardless of conditions. It is now significantly cooler, runs like a beast in the lower gears, and is good for over 125+ indicated.
