How can i change my self cancelling turn signal to non self cancelling?
My 83 gs1100 had em (and gear indicator). They dont stay on long enough. I find myself making a turn and noticing they stopped blinking so i hastily re activate. People not signalling a turn really bugs me and where i live alot of people dont signal their intentions (even cops).
Id rather cancel them when im ready.
I simply reactivate my blinker "before" it turns off. I believe this resets the countdown starting over and keeping the signal going. I do this as often as needed to keep it going until I want it to shutoff. Pretty easy to do...
That may be useful in the UK where driver education is likely much better than it is in the US. Here unfortunately most drivers, specifically the younger, less attentive ones, wouldn't have a clue as to what you were doing.

The car drivers over here are pretty awful and ignorant. It's never been worse than it is now. I use hand signals as well as the bike indicators. Hardly any of them see you and take any notice of you. They are safe in their metal boxes and in their own world. Luckily we on the bikes are faster than they are and can usually get clear of them.
Tailgating is also a nightmare when you are trying to keep to the lower speed limits, it really does drive me insane.
