I totally agree with your statement. Triumph had an opportunity to build the best touring bike ever and blew it. They don't seem to know that a true touring bike needs electronics, fairing, tour pak, and passenger comforts. In my opinion they already had the best handling and performing bike (of its size). Why change a good thing?
Actually JR, you are the first one to mention electronics, fairing, tour pak and passenger comforts in this thread as being the reason Triumph have fallen short with the Touring.
All the previous comments have centered around a dislike of the single headlight and detuning.
I have absolutely no issue with the single headlight and power, but like you, I really would have liked to see a tour pak, cruise control etc included (even as options) as Triumph are marketing the bike as a Touring.
Hopefully these options will come eventually, but in the meantime, I'm sure I'll be able to cope with my underpowered, ugly, underconfigured Touring
