Aren't you keyless
@1olbull ? Did you flip the kill back on before walking away?
Regards the KeyLess system, even if he flipped the Kill back on, the Ignition would not have come back on - would have required another clutch lever pull.
(my SOP on my own bike is that I flip to Kill to shut it down, then typically back to Run right away anyway)
I suspected right off the bat that it had been 'killed' by dropping the side-stand with it in gear;
of course that will shut the engine off, but all the power circuits themselves (incl the headlights) will all remain alive.
That is indeed what happened.
How old is the battery? If you got it started, there's only two reasons it wouldn't last til home: battery won't take a charge, or alternator. I'd say most likely time for (another) new battery?
Those were my suspicions too - the battery was fairly new but tasked with supplying 10A for 90 - 12 mins.
Either R/R or stator got toasted by the jump start off running* truck or a Fuse blew (or battery just gave up ghost after being severely drained with headlights on for that prolonged period.
I've given 'Bull some checks and we'll see what that shows up.
The battery may have just been damaged and drawing high current into it from generator which eventually cooked the main fuse.
But all speculative at the minute .........
* The truck that jump-started the bike had engine running
Now - typically this will not cause an issue as long as it does not remain connected for prolonged time;
Truck/Car Alternator puts out higher voltage than bike; therefor when bike starts, the Regulator 'thinks' the voltage is too high and goes into full shunt mode (to 'try' to regulate itself);
With the high output of the Rocket Generator and a MOSFET R/R I'm honestly not sure of the consequences, so not saying this is absolutely the cause.
The urban legend about damaging bike 'electronics' is rubbish - the potential for any problem is only going to be to the generating system - and again,
usually would require to remain connected for extended period after bike starts to cause an issue.
Bottom line - if Jump Starting from a vehicle there is simply no need to have the motor running, so better to just avoid that potential
Even car with the puniest of batteries is going to have more capacity than just about any bike battery and should be more than adequate to start the bike without need to have it running.
