Shift shaft broken internally

Rocket 3 Roadster
Hello everyone,
I'm in Toronto, Canada.
I have a 2012 R3 Roadster that is otherwise impeccable with only 15k km.
I was riding and without apparent warning I just lost all ability to shift and was stuck in first gear.
It appears that the shift shaft has broken internally and the repair estimate is too high (about 5K Canadian), even for my insurance company who wants to write it off (I haven't been given a value yet).

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks in advance. There seem to be very smart and experienced Triumph folk around here. Me not being one of them :)

Greetings from sunny North Texas. There should be some threads on the forum about replacing the shifter and/or spring on the 2.3 engines. A search of the forum should provide you the details and photos if you want to attempt a DIY project.

Yeah it's a not so uncommon problem unfortunately. Triumph factory assembly tech put the threadloc on the wrong end of the bolt on the gear change actuator inside in the transmission.
As a result it loosens and leaves you with a floppy gear shift outside and stuck in a gear.

If you want to fix it you have to take the engine out of the frame, turn it upside down and remove the lower crankcase to get at it. The parts needed is really like a couple hundred tops but the labour costs thousands.

It might be more economical to get a replacement engine but yours is fresh enough and has the latest parts etc so not a great alternative.
