Brakes on r3

I do not count the miles/km but I change mine a lot sooner than that, I have 60000 miles/96000km and have changed the pads at least four times.
Of course road conditions come into account are you riding twisties or riding in a straight line from the west to the east coast of Au about a one day journey:D are you engine braking? a habit I thankfully never picked up.
I also never let tham get near the metal I could squeeze quite a few thousand out of them but what the hell it is only a six hour job to replace them.;)

Brake wear

Living on the gold coast we have lots of large mountain ranges within 10 minutes ride from where we live near the beach a big days ride fjor me is about 500 to 800 km. that was my first set of pads on the rear wheel Sounds like I did okay.

Just replaced rear pads after 48000 km front brakes still going is this about normal

here we goagain i am being led to this subject again

are you peter saying you used up your rear pads faster than your front!!
I do not know about the 48 000 kms but you say the front are still going (meaning more pads than the rear !! ) if you are using the rear brake more than the front some day you will regret it big time , this is my pet peeve and I have posted several time about the danger of using the rear brake over the front so if you are interested in knowing why you should use the front brake 80% and the rear 20% check the previous posts you will see and understand the reasons for it .
it is a serious mistake to apply more braking power to the rear than the front .

G'day Pete

I replaced my back brakes at 20,000 front ones still going strong. What pissed me off is I use manly the front brakes only. When I do use the back brake as well it usually means I'm stopping in a hurry.

Yesterday on our gold coast ride talking to a few of the captains and they said they're lucky to get between 5 to 6km out of the Metzler rear tyre. Went through first back tyre at 18900km, done 11000km on second tyre still going strong.

I replaced my front ones before 10k miles. I will have to replace the rear very soon. I ride pretty hard however and change them before the recommended service intervals. When it pretty close to the notches in the pads that's when I change them.

EDIT: My bike has 11,500 miles on it so I guess that's pretty good for the rear..... but they are actually shot. lol

Wish we a few of the quality riding areas you guys have down south.

Sounds to me like you are not using your front brakes enough. For me, brake changing is the reverse of tire changes. One front tire to two rear tires - Two sets front brakes to one set rear brakes.
Best Regards,
