Something a lot of people don't mention but should always be done and that is to scuff up the rotor surface with a very fine wet-n-dry sandpaper so the new pad break in properly that and make sure you clean All compontents including the new pads with a quality Brake cleaner

This must be where I messed up. My rear is great. The front Is terrible. I just cleaned the rotors but didn't scuff them.

Have to say, I didn't set any time records about 20 mins total for front and back, but by far the easiest brake pads I've ever changed in my life :D

HH all the way I would not trust any other Pads, the EBC ones Flip sell are what stops me from killing myself, I have used HH pads in the last 3 bikes and on every bike they have improved the braking everytime with no bad rotor wear
Hey Hanso, Im in Brisvegas.. mate where do you get your pads from. Do you get them from Flip....cheers

Interesting you should bring this up. I just picked up front and rear pads for my 08 R3T. I have 11.5K on the bike. I think the rear are still OK but the fronts are getting down there. The "Triumph" pads are outrageously priced. My dealer sells them for $180 for both side front "Triumph" brand pads. I went with EBC's for less then half the price. I did EBC for the rear as well. I paid $28 for the rear pads.

The last time I went from stock pads to EBC brand HH's (on my older 05 standard Rocket), I did notice that the braking was not as good as with the stock pads. The braking was OK but just not as good as the previous stock pads. It will be interesting to see if that holds true with this bike as well. I am expecting it the braking to be a bit less.

Question, has anyone chnaged the rear pads (on an R3T) without removing the caliper? Can it be done? or, is caliper removal absolutely required?

Hey Bud, changing the rear pads on a Rocket 3 T takes about 10 minutes the first time and 5 minutes every time after that there's a video on how to do it on You tube
. I use the Volar Sintered double H you can get them on EBay for $11.00 including shipping and they are better than the EBC pads that are north of $40.00...

I bought new set of front pads for about 26€ for two pairs. Not bad. Never seen Snell branded pads before. The package claims they are sinter semi-metal. Installed them yesterday so no riding experience yet. The installation itself was very easy and I would not want to pay for a job like that.

I wouldn't use brake cleaner on the pads unless you got oil or grease on them. The pads, especially the HH pads mentioned here are coated with a special coating that has to transfer to the rotor with a special break-in procedure. That said, I've always done my own brake jobs on my cars, trucks, etc., and I do clean those pads with brake cleaner because I almost always get a little grease on them when handling. But I would avoid that with the HH pads. Don't get grease on them and don't clean them. If you do clean them, don't go nuts about it. Read the installation instructions for those pads.

As far as I know, though, it's always a good idea to thoroughly clean rotors to prepare them for the transfer of the coating that comes on the new pads.
