It was increasingly difficult to up-shift; especially 1st to 2nd. I was unable to get the bike in N unless the engine was off. Then, pulling out from a stop, I was unable to engage the shifter. So, I was stuck in first gear. Upon inspection, the shifter had no resistance; just flopping in the breeze. I had the bike trailered to the Triumph dealer. I spoke with one of the Service Advisors who experienced the exact same scenario on his R3 Classic. He said the bolt that holds the detent wheel in place slowly backed out, and then came completely out. According to the Triumph Master Tech, that requires splitting the engine cover to replace the $3 bolt that’s no longer in place. $2,000 repair. Anyone else had that happen? My R3 Touring is a 2008 with 27,000 miles.

Make sure it's not the detent spring before diving into the engine.
Thanks for that tip. I’ll double-check with the shop before they start on the repair. Hopefully, their senior Triumph tech would have checked that first.
